Please Help Me Design My Sound Setup...

I have a basic knowledge of the standard speaker setup, but I am absolutely clueless when it comes to subs/amps and stuff, so thats what I need help with. I have roughly $300 for a sub/amp setup, doesn't have to be the best setup ever obviously cause of the price range, but i need something that will rock my car. Please include everything neccessary in your mach setup that i would need to get it running, and tips and such on setup would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

just the sub would be a ton easier, and probably cheaper i'm assuming, also, as for single or dual subs, whatever i can afford for $300 thats still good

yea it would b alot cheaper just to amplify the sub. alpine, jbl, mtx, and rockford fosgate are all great subwoofers.
go here and look around:http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S...00&cc=01&avf=Y
ive always had good experiences with alpine and rockford fosgate amolifiers look for a 2-way amp here:
http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S...=0&cc=01&avf=Y
for under $300 id go with an mtx 10" sub and an alpine 50x2w amp. but its all pretty much personal preference.

So an Alpine MRP-T220, and an MTX Thunder6000 T6104A should fit my needs? Whats involved in the setup? Also, I could build my own housing, but is there a place that has detailed guides and specifications for building your own sub housing? What do I have to do with the wiring and such? I'm familiar with electronics and wiring and all, but since I just got my first car, i'm not very aquainted with car audio, so any wiring help would be cool. Thanks for the help.

If you're dead set on MTX subs (I wouldn't be), I'd recommend the 6000 series over the 4000. My friend had one of each in his Bronco and the 6000 sounded better when it had enough amplification running to it. I personally have the an Alpine MRP-M200, which is the Alpine 200 watt mono amp and an Alpine Type E 10" sub. The enclosure is a generic QLogic sealed. I honestly don't know if you'd need anything more than this in a car if you're going to run the speakers off the headunit. My total for the sub/box/amp came in at around $375 or so, but that was from Circuit Shitty and I bought the extended warranties.

yes those should fit your needs, ask a local audio shop to help you pick out your sub and amp then go buy it on ebay.

Is this Rockford Fosgate Punch 301M amp any good? I could probably get that for my birthday from one side of the family, a decent sub from the other side, and buy/build my own enclosure. Lemme know what you think about that one.

yea that certain sub is excellent, great "bang for buck". lol yea family presents is the best way to do it, so u can use that $300 toward something else on your car.

Ok, say I get that amp, if you had a choice between the following subs, which one would you take, and will they all work fine with that amp? Or what other subs would you suggest?

1. Rockford Fosgate Punch HX2 RFD2110 10" Dual Voice Coil Subwoofer
2. Alpine SWR-1241D 12" Type-R Series Subwoofer
3. MTX T8124A Thunder8000 12" 4 Ohm Subwoofer
4. Pioneer TS-W2000SPL 12" Premier Subwoofer
5. Rockford Fosgate Punch HX2 RFD2112 12" Dual Voice Coil Subwoofer
6. MTX T8104A Thunder8000 10" 4 Ohm Subwoofer

What in your opinion is the best out of these for the value/quality and such, or what would you suggest in that price range thats better quality? Also would any of these work with that amp i just posted?

well i dont have experience with most of these subwoofers but i have heard great things about them. My opinion is go to an audio shop ask them what you have been asking me and they'll probably lead you in the right direction, becaust those guys have far more experience and hands on time than me. But to choose from those subs i would probably go with the rockford fosgate because if you bought that amp, rockford fosgate most likely tested that amp with their own subwoofers, thus making it a good combo.

Ok, i'll ask around at a few places. Do you know if the ones I posted will all work with that amp though? One more thing, is the setup on these things really easy?

Yea all of those subs will work with that amp, actually with that particular amp you have to use an 4-ohm subwoofer, sry i forgot to mention that earlier. Yea the setup for a system is relatively easy if u have some sense of what your doing. If u take your time keep track of all parts you'll be fine. But installation for a basic sub and amp combo shouldn't cost to much at your local goodguys.

So "Dual 2-ohm voice coils" pretty much means 4 ohms right?

this amp is an mono-sub amp, so it will only power the sub, a 2-way amp will power the head unit and the sub.
150 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms means that u can power 1 4-ohm sub at 150 watts, or 300 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms whic u could pwer 2 4-ohm subs at 300 watts. So if you were to use this amp, it recomends that you use an 4-ohm sub.

ok, but for like this sub it says "Dual 2-ohm voice coils", does that mean that its a 4 ohm sub since theres two 2 ohm voice coils?

With a dual 2-ohm voice coil sub. you could wire it to 1 ohm, 2 ohm or 4 ohm... and yes, that amp would work with any of those subs you listed. And as was stated prior, go to a car audio store and listen to them first. They'll probably sound different outside of a car, but the best judge of what sounds good is you.

May sound dumb, but I bought my subs, box, and amps from wal mart. 10" 400 waat pioneer sub, cheap 10" box, and 200 waat pioneer amp to push the sub for around $200. Did that twice, and it get's loud as hell. Your setup would also depend on what you want it to sound like. I listen to it all, and some songs with ultra low sub-bass don't carry as well, but for the mid bass and high bass, it shakes the hair on your head.
