Pictorial: Ganador Mirrors (for FD)
Pictorial: Ganador Mirrors (for FD)
**Posted in the 3rd gen section since this is a 3rd gen specific part. Mods, please don't hurt me if I did wrong.

Thought I'd share some pics of my newest toys. I had a friend bring a set from Japan in. Wanted the Autoexe strut bar set too, but figured it wouldn't fit in his Samsonite too well. Oh well, I'll just have Ramy bring a set in for me (are you listening Ramy?!
) I've seen a few cars with these mirrors stateside, but never seen them pre-installation.

I couple things surprised me. First, the base is made of cast aluminum apparently, so there is a little bit of heft to it (as opposed to being all plastic). The outer, mirror portion appears to be plastic.

The finish isn't 100% perfect. There are some slight 'waves'/imperfections in my set. Nothing 30 minutes and some sandpaper can't cure, but thought it should be noted. Then again, I'm pretty **** (I've been measuring the panel gaps with a digital caliper during the ongoing installation of my Shineauto Burnout fenders/flares replicas)

The outer portion has a 'break away' feature. It's held in place by a heavy spring. My guess is that it's to minimize damage should one hit the mirror, or to stray pedestrians. Typically, pedestrians are soft and squishy, so I don't know why they bothered. The mirror is motorized and plugs directly into the FD mirror plug. I haven't done so, as that the FD is totally stripped down at the moment.

Th kit comes with the nuts and bolts to complete the installation, along with detailed instructions in Japanese. At least I think they're detailed; I don't read Japanese. It attaches only at the base (where the original mirrors attached). I assumed that it also attached where the triangles are (that the Ganador mirrors cover up), but it seems more than sturdy enough (we'll see once I hit a squishy pedestrian).
Any case, don't hold your breath for an installation review. My project has been in progress for 5-6 years, so, well... anyways.
When I do, I'll post any details and pics here.

Nice
Any chance for a picture with them held up to the door? I also thought they attached to the triangle, no idea they attached to the stock location... Are they heavier than the stock mirrors? What did they end up running you?
I'll post a pic tomorrow. Slightly heavier than the stock mirrors, I think. Not by very much though, if they are. I'll pull out the stock mirrors and compare; I was to take pictures of them a long time ago anyways, since they are for sale.
The Ganadors were about $300, plus $50 for my friend for the trouble.
Some pics of one of Shineauto's customers:

I'll probably paint the 'base' a satin black, and paint the outer portion the body color, for an OEM look. I think I've settled on a pearl white for the car.

Just wondering if you were planning to modify these mirrors so you can actually see correctly, since they are made for RHD vehicles you end up seeing 2 cars to the side rather than the car next to you on the passenger side.

I've been looking at these but with the built in LED repeater. Ken hasn't put the holes for the standard side repeaters in the Feed arches and I figured these would be a nice way to replace it. I think we need side repeaters legally over here.
I typically adjust my mirrors so that I don't see the sides of the car at all. I may add a convex/wideangle lens to it, or just turn my head to look in the blind spots - which I should be doing anyways. Anyways, not something I'm going to spend a lot of time on. I'll take a pic of my view when I take the car out of the garage this weekend.

No, it's the foam underneath the cover. I had the Sparcos redone in Alcantara/leather by Stitchcraft in California. They did some of Sparco's US project/promo cars.

I'm repainting/working on the car, so took the cover off.

I don't see a LED version listed yet for the FD, but can't imagine it to be not available. I *think* the outer portion of the mirror is the same for all models, with different bases to adapt to different cars.

I was planning on modifying my Shineauto replica Burnout fenders to take a LED side marker anyways. I don't think it's required here in the States, but I do believe that sidemarkers are required in the EU.

I actually sent the covers and cushions to them. They basically took them apart and used the patterns to make the new pieces. Because the Alcantara and leather were not as stretchy as the orginal 'Jacquard' fabrib, it was a little harder to get on, but essentially the cover just slips over the shell, and is cinched in place by a wire 'drawstring'.
