I've heard of people puttin 6x9's in the two pocket in the back in the touring models. Did the non touring models come with speakers there or not?

Ive seen setups with the speakers there but the guy who installed my stereo said it would be hard to do because its not a flat mounting point. I think he full of it because he said there was no possible way to get the Bose wave acoutic thing to work with different front speakers and a different head unit.

Anyone willing to throw some pics down and some info on to how they have theirs setup

 

This should be posted in the interior/exterior section. Anyways, the "touring" models came with the Bose speakers, which had a mid-range speaker inside the door panels, one center "tweeter," and two low-range speakers (back to back) in the snake that resides in the hatch area.
All other models had no low-range speakers. They had speakers in the same front locations, in addition to the two rear speakers that are near the cargo bins (It is possible to put speakers in this location if you have a "touring" model).

If you don't have speakers in the rear 1/4 panels, but rather have the mini storage bins, you can convert to speakers easily. Well, some work is required. I started by ordering the stock speaker grills. Pull off the mini storage bin cover. The stock rear speaker grills pop on in their place when you're done. Release the rear 1/4 panel. You will see the back of the mini storage bin is just plastic-welded on. Just break the welds using a large flat blade screwdriver.
Next, determine how large a board you will need to mount your chosen speaker on (larger than the rear 1/4 panel opening). Cut the hole for the speaker in the wood. You will see several suitable mouning points on the interior metal of the car. Determine how far the magnet will stick back into the cavity to make sure you chose the correct speakers. Use aluminum to fab up three brackets to hold the sound board in the correct orientation (this took a lot of trial and error - working behind the installed 1/4 panel through the speaker hole cut into the sound board). I sealed mine using packing foam in front of the board (seals the board to the 1/4 panel). Don't use styrofoam - it will squeek.

The sound board ended up a rather unusual shape and so did the brackets.

I removed the Bose Wave tube and all the electronics and installed an Alpine radio/CD MP3 player. Now I have twice as much room in the hatch to carry things! Used JL Audio speakers front and rear.
