Painting taillights!

Ok, so due to recent events, I have to put my S4 tails on my S5. I really don't like this look but I think it looks much better when they're painted white to match the car.

So my question is, is there anything I need to know about painting them, like do they need to be primered? Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks.

mask, sand and primer... i'd do rattle can white and then a similar clear coat. if you wanna get lazy you can ust sand and try that krylon plastic spray paint, but primer will enable you to get the paint very smooth if you take the time to rub it with some 600/900 grit.

If you can find the Niteshades paint, clean the lenses with Prep-sol, cut out a pattern for what you don't want sprayed and apply 3 very light coats. In the daytime the tails will look like the S5's, or whatever pattern you don't paint, when the brakes or running lights are on, you will get near full illuminarion through the painted part. If you want to have fun, make the cutouts look like rotors.

I haven't had a problem with that on the widebody FB. Part of the trick is to not paint the reflectors. I was afraid I might catch some slack on it, but none so far. When I first put the car on the street, I did get followed by the popo quite a bit, I think they were running the plates, trying to figure out what the car is. I painted the entire tail light, except for the reflectors.
