I havn't searched sense I'm not sure what to search for on this, but I was wondering if anyone know what kind of paint is on the bottom of the car you know the textured paint? I have some damage on some of mine and I'm thinking of just stripping the car and starting from scratch on the paint as its not in the best shape, and I wanted to add that part back on or repair it somehow.

yea i think it is a chip resistant coating from factory... it'a kinda like a rubber based paint... really thick... i will be getting rid of all mine soon....

 

It's undercoating. They sell it in Rattlecans at the autoparts store.

 

If I am not mistaken he is not talking about the 'bottom' of the car, i.e. chassis area, but rather he is asking about the textured paint that is the anti-chip paint on the bottom half of the car doors.
I love this feature of the car but have too wondered about how to go about replicating it during a re-paint.
It appears to be a polyurethane enamel, where the rest of the car is just enamel.

This has come up in a thread YEARS ago, if my memory serves....

 

I figured if I looked it up I wouldn't be able to find much. Anyone else know what it is? Or how to duplicate it?

 

A good body shop can restore that chip resistant panel on the bottom during a respray. Ask your particular shop

my body shop did just that....I hit ran along side the ATM too close and messed up the paint slightly in the rear of that side area, they sanded it smooth and resprayed it....looks better than new!

 

well Im going to be doing the repaint myself thats why I was wondering how to do it myself.

str8 and unv are correct.

It is a rocker panel spray on coating from a rattle can. Final paint is applied over it.

 

Don't they make clear vinyl strips of this stuff? It's probably better to paint it though.

 

its just a undercoating like everyone else has said. do you have damage to the area that has the texture on it? if not just sand it with a red scotch brite instead of a sander, then you wont take the texture out of it.
