Looks nice, but I'd say you need more mag and less tyre

How did you paint the lip where the rim meets the tire? When I did I had trouble getting that part painted to the quality I wanted.

Thanks
Jason
Thanks, I just went around the edge very slowly . Since i didnt mask the tire off i just went back after when the paint dried and whipped the tire off w/ some mineral stuff.

One of my best friends has had that done for a while now on the same color and everything. They look great in person, but yours will look even better when you lower it....

Yeah, I'm the best friend! I know who's coming to my birthday party now!

I had a friend of mine who does body work- soon to be FD owner- do mine for me while the car was out over the winter. They do look pretty mean and I've got it riding pretty low with the 99 lip and blacked out turn signals. If you were at the Revolution, you probably saw it. Deffinitley a mod to get a little kick out of those stock rims before you get some bigger ones.

Yeah, I reckon I have some pics somewhere but I've always had problems hosting them through webshots and imagestation. I'll try to get them up.

Nice looking FD MakoDHardie. I'm usually not a big fan of that color either but yours has that clean and aggressive Japanese look. Sweet!

Nice car Mako. I'm not sure if I REALLY like that front lip, I either want the r1 lip or a 99 spec bumper.

The lip does look much better in person. Same with the wheels. If I posted a higher resolution on the pictures, the setup shows a little more of the detail on the car. The profile shot zoomed in shows off little things that make it all come together a little cleaner. I have my calipers painted black I polished the Mazda print surface. The red Racing Beat sway bar reveals itself a little too.

I really like the 99 spec front end, but its very expensive for the complete set and I do not want to deal with the front license plate bracket. I'd be interested in the Pettit replica that deletes that, but then you wouldn't have all the ducts and everything that the original front end kit comes with and that's its main performance advantage that makes the price worth it over an aftermarket front end.

Yea, but the 99 front bumper is what makes the lip look good. I remember you have a 99 lip and it looks pretty nice.

Mako, I think the 99 bumper looks better w/ the license plate holder , so thast the way i'll probably get it. The pettit one doesnt look so much diff then the 93-96 one anyway.

This thread is about my car , not his

Louis- It's pretty straight forward. Just take your rims off , clean em, primer them ( if you want too), paint, and clear coat. What you do w/ the tire is your choice.

i like the 99spec front w/o the front plate, but that is why every1 is different. if we all like the same things all the cars would look the same. like 99spec rear wings on every FD(wait a minute that happened already )

HA! My bad.... I guess I ended up going with a mean race machine theme. As Adam calls it- "The Dirty Race Car".... which is pretty true because its nasty and it was until I got down to detailing it after Indy- just plain dirty. I did some nasty black stuff in the engine bay too. With my manifolds and fuel system to go along with the theme.

i painted mine the other day after reading this thread. i stuck playing cards around the rim by the bead so that it didnt overspray onto the tires. the guy who i bought the paint from told me about that trick. anway, they came out great. thanks for the information.
