Paint question

I searched...but nothing seemed to answer my questions.

I have an 88 NA, red, and the paint has gone a dull orange color. I wash and wax and buff. And it goes a nice red...for a couple of days and then it fades to the dull orange again. I've been told the paint is just oxidized and the only solution is new paint.

So next spring I want to get new paint, and I want to go black. I've visited several shops, but they just give me a price and thats it. Can someone give me a link to, or simply give me a primer on paint jobs, so I can ask some informed questions and not get ripped off?

I've heard countless times you get what you pay for...but there has to be more to it than that.

Thanks

yes you have to answer these questions...

1-do you have body damage
2-do you want to completely change the color i.e. doors, engine bay
3-is the car a trailer queen

after you answer those then go to any paint shop and tell them what you want...easy budget jobs can range between 500-1200 and good show room can go from 1500-3000 range

so it all depends on your budget and who will do it to ur expectations

yeah....

The most important factor when I price a paint job is the extent of existing damage/rust. A clean car is obviously easier and therefore cheaper.

Also another factor with a flexibile shop is disassembly etc...if you brign the car stripped of everything they should take off to do a proper paint job, it will be less money for an overall better quality job then you would get for the same price. Provided you take the risk of reassembling it

ok so
1) I have a few minor door dings,
2) I would like the door jambs and such painted, but I won't be pulling the engine, so the engine bay will stay red
3) the car definitely isn't a trailer queen. She gets driven pretty hard. Why have a nice car if you're not gonna drive it?

Now I'm willing to do...pretty much any and all disassembly to make sure I get a great job done. I'm a mechanic, by trade, and I've already striped an S5 as a parts car, so the prospect isn't at all intimidating. But how far do I go?

then if you could get all the supplies ...300-500 bucks
and have some one do the work for you..... you will be set

but if you take it to a shop expect close to 1000 for your job
