To paint CYM or not?

Just wondering if anyone has ever considered painting their FD CYM. Im talking done right paint i.e. bottom of hood, engine bay, door jambs, with clear coat. I have the chance to do a color change on my rx7. its red right now. but needs to be painted. its pretty much stripped right now. I just remember seeing my first RX7. it was CYM and i used to see it all the time around my neighborhood. i thought it was bad ***. that and you dont see any yellow FD's. is there like a FD community no no for painting your fd this color or what. iknow it wa a factory color but im assuming its rare. every other fd is red balck or that MB color. im gonna buy some paint in a couple of weeks. Prolly DIAMONT sp?

Paint the car whatever color you want. It's yours. The only caveat is that it would be unethical to portray the car as one of the 350 CYM R1s imported for 1993.

So are you saying that someone who already spent the money to buy an fd, cannot paint it a certain color because of some inferred code of ethics? I would think that it would be unethical to impose such an assumption on someone's ethical character by what color he/she chooses to have his/her car.

Based on your logic, I could argue that it would be unethical to paint a car any color because it would portray the car as something it wasn't.

Rubber-Toe

I had my 93VR repainted CYM and I loved how it transformed my dulled, faded crappy red paint into the beauty that it is.

Hijo De Su Pinche Buta Perra Madre, whey!!
j/k.
Rubber-Toe, make sure that you so all the damn friggin body work that you want done to your car before you paint it CYM. Getting the yellow to match up on a panel after the entire car is painted just doesn't seem to work too well. In other words, if you paint a bumper/fender later on, the yellow doesn't match up.

yeah im prolly gonna get the cwest front end, mazda sides and the RX7store diffuser for the rear then paint the car. as far as the red still showing through should i have my body man take it down as far as he can and primer it then appy the paint. I know he knows what to do with the car, hes a professional, really ******* awesome work. i just wnat to have the upper hand on him when im explaining what i want done....lol...so red showing through is not going to show up? or would a black base coat or what work?

Maybe if you quit post whoring long enough to actually READ, you would understand my post.

I'll say it again, maybe you'll get it this time. I told him that it is his car, he can paint it whatever color he wants. I then said that it would be unethical to then try to pass it off as an original CYM -- like in a sales situation. I in no way inferred that it was unethical to change the color.

That turned out excellant! It looks like a near perfect application.

My 1991 goes in this weekend for a complete repaint if you have any pointers on what I should do or ask the bodyshop to do please pass them along, Thanks!

PS, I have a thread in this section looking for info on this subject.

im almost sure that im gonna buy new moldings and seals i.e. door, hatch, windsheid etc. ive always done that with all my cars that i paint. i also take out the motor and as much interior as i can to make it easy for them. the less time they spend on the removal/ prep the more they spend on the actual quality. how ever make sure you know your painter, because if your removing ****, and masking in a way he doesnt like, its a total waste of time, so ask him what would be better to do before he gets the car. one time I brought him a shell. He was like wtf, i didnt mean strip it. bt hey its fun to put your car back together! So CYM it is!!! I removed tail lights anything that didnt get paint. how ever it depends on how good your painter is......

And how did your misguided rebuttal to my original post help the thread starter?

What are you laughing at? You're the one with poor reading comprehension.

Senor Rynberg, thank you for making it painfully clear to me that I do not have a grasp for comprehension. However, when you tell someone, and please do not bring up your "do whatever you want statement" again, that it would be unethical to portray the car as one of the 350 CYM R1s imported for 1993, it doesn't really give Rubber-Toe much of a choice. Let me ask you this, have you ever had experience selling a VR FD that had it's exterior painted CYM? My guess is no. So what makes you the leading authority on the ethical code of selling such a car? Would you like me to ask the person who bought my CYM FD that was originally a VR whether or not he thought it was unethical to list it as a CYM in the ad? Or do you think he's happy with the way it looks, obviously saw that the engine bay was still red and bought it anyway. You forget, he didn't have to give me a check before he saw the car. So if he didn't like it, or somehow thought that I was unethically trying to pass off a VR FD as one of only 350 Original CYM FD's, he could have simply said no. No Rynberg, no. It's called a choice. If someone doesn't like that fact that I painted my car a certain color, knowing that it would portray my car as something it's not, then she/he just simply does not have to buy it.

I don't think VR looks like ****! Maybe I'm biased
<-------

I may end up painting her Black or VR when she needs it. Haven't decided.

Bob, hahaha, remembering a funny western here, nevermind, as I was saying... Bob, do you live in SoCal? If so, who is doing the paint? I know of what shops NOT to use but I'm trying to find a good one.

Victor

P.S. Series, Rynberg... can't we all just get along
