ok, i'm a f'ing idiot when it comes to stereo stuff..
so i did a search and it says that my 88 GXl (with dash speakers) would work better with midrange speakers in the back... what is the MAXIMUM size i can fit in the rears without having to cut anything?
and what size for the dash? i tried searching, but that just makes me even more confused.
i'm not getting a sub/amp for now. and my car has absolutly NO speakers, but still has the stock head.
so could i get 4"(or bigger) mids in the front and 5 1/2" mids for the rears?
thanks

I have an 86 GXL and I have 4's in the front and 6 1/2's in the back. As far as I have been told, you can fit 8's in the strut towers without a mounting plate, but I just went with the 6 1/2's.....they sound great. Go to www.crutchfield.com and check out the speakers that they have there. You can put in what kind of car it is and they will show you what fits. You can get a set of mounting adapter plates for the 6 1/2's to fit them in the rear, but I just modified the stock ones on mine. My next stop is probably gonna be an amp and subs, but not too big--need the FD alternator first!!
Without cutting, stick to 4's in the front. They are a direct fit replacement, but be careful if they have a high tweeter--it might stick out too far to fit behind the factory grilles.
