OEM Wheels Project: Polished Lip, Black Paint

alright guys, the project is making progress, but i'm getting to them when i have time. as i posted in a nother thread, when the paint is stripped from stock FD wheels, the metal is rough, so it take quite a bit of sanding to get it smooth. i'm mostly concerned on w/ the lip portion though since i am tryin to make it polished to a mirror finish. i like an idiot forgot to take pics of my wheels before i began, but if theres anyone w/ stock FD wheels or had them, just go take a look at them then look at them. or u can just search for stock FD wheels in these forums and find a pic. right now im almost finished w/ the smoothing portion then i'll be on my way making it mirrory. to get it smooth i dry sanded but to make it very shiny i will wetsand. then i'll be painting the spoke portions black. my camera sucks, so its kinda hard to tell that i've done much of anything, but i tried to take pics of where i left the spoke rough and smoothed the lip up. im happy w/ the way its smoothing up, but i'm a perfectionist so i'm making sure i get everything good and smooth before i start polishing away that shouldn't take long though, and neither shall the painting. if anyone has any questions on this project or things of the kind feel free to ask. i'll be as much help as i can. here are progress pics.

Your rims are going to appear to be 15'' after you are all done. Just a warning if you are going two-tone.

guess i'll hafta live w/ that. i haven't the money for the volks i want, and i didn't want to ride completely stock, so figured i'd do this to give a diff look. i didn't want completely black, or completely polished, i'll be happy w/ it.

IMO, two toning the stock rims doesn't look too good. I really liked Fumanchu's all black rims for his white FD. Since mine's white, i might be goin that route until i have enough for some CCW's. I guess it really depends on the color of your car, and your likes and dislikes. I'm just stating mine. Anyways, good luck on the project.

well i'm getting the car painted blue. if thats the case should i just try going all black or gunmetal? i figured i might look kinda good, but i see a lotta ppl don't too much care for it. i've tried looking for pics of FD wheels done like this but i haven't had too much luck. if anyone knows where i might could find some pics or some on an FD that'd be awesome. i'm not too partial to polishing all of it for the simple fact its a pain and my time is very limited before i have to be heading back to school and i won't have access to my shop anymore. lemme here some opinions guys

I know some on the board did it but i cant remember who. There was a thread about it too. Just search.

Also, what color blue are you gonna paint your car. That makes a big difference in deciding whether you should go all black, gunmetal, or polished lip. Do you have a pic of the blue you want?

i'm gettin it painted viper gts blue. i think its a nice blue and haven't heard of too many cars w/ it. i was thinkin innocent blue mica. i searched here for different blues to get ideas, but it seems there are quite a few innocent blues out there now. i'm just trying to be fairly original on most of the things im doin to my FD. i just got it a couple weeks ago. i searched and found a viper w/ the blue and some black rims w/ a polished lip to get some sorta idea what it might look like.

thats the blue. i think its pretty nice. i was also thinkin because black spokes on stock FD wheels will make the wheel look at lot smaller, what if i did a polished lip and gunmetal spokes on stock FD. the contrast won't be as great, but it'll still b somewhat unique. i just dont want all this sanding im doing to go waste

well this will be the first time mine will be down there. i just got it a couple weeks ago. i had an eclipse this past year. i go to UM. i'm excited. please people i need opinions on these wheels. i put up a pic of the blue its gonna be. right now i was planning on polished lip and black spokes. stock FDs. so far the general consensus seems to be that it'll look too small. how does anyone feel about polished lip and gunmetal spokes? i would like to salvage all this sanding i've been doing, but if i can't, then black or gunmetal? lets hear it ppl.

that was cool thanks man. the only thing is i already have some sort of idea of how the blue looks w/ rims that r black w/ polished lip. my dilemma is do i still do that or do a change? here are the options i'll do w/ the color my car is being painted:

stock FD wheels:
black spokes w/ polished lip (originial plan)
gunmetal spokes w/ polished lip
all black
all gunmetal

i really would like to keep the polished lip since i've done a buncha work on it, but if its not gonna look good i'll just paint the entire rim.

another, cool. i searched and searched and found someone who painted the spokes black, but didn't polish the lip. it still gives me a general idea. if there are any photoshop experts out there who could try to put the color from the viper i posted or a blue very similar on this pic so i could have a better idea that would be so so so much help. thanks again guys

EDIT: also if someone could try doing one w/ the black and one w/ the gunmetal that would be even better.
