OEM sideskirt question

Ok, im about to install these tomorrow.

I know its pretty straight foward. Some self tapping screws, double sided tape. Ok i got both of that covered.

I had nothing to do today so i went outside with a piece of the driver side skirt and placed it under the car to see what it would look like.

Now, underneath the side of the car there is some sort of black padding? Its towards the rear, just before the rear wheels on both sides of the cars.

AM i supposed to take this off before putting on the skirts?

And my second question is i see that the skirts (the longer one in particular) only has 3 places to place the screw too. I looked under the car and the tabs where you screw into doesnt match to what looks like "button" like placements where you would put a screw into if you were to install a sideskirt on the car itself.

Do i just screw right into the body?

I know there are a couple of people who have oem skirts on their car. Someone please help.

Ok i took pics because i read my post a couple of times and i know people will probably have no idea of what im saying.

This is that "padding" i was talking about. Do i remove this before i install the skirt?

And here are the "button" like things where i THINK you would screw into if you were to install a sideskirt but these button like things dont line up with the screw tabs on the skirt themselves. OR are these buttons just useless things on the car?

I will be installing mine soon and was wondering the same thing. I actually have to remove the double sided tape that came on mine (used), which is gonna be a PITA.

i do know on the feed sideskirts, those "Buttons" are what hold the skirts on, and for the padded thing ur talking about, i just installed mine over, but, seeing as how, u have the OEM sideskirts, and i believe i know what they look like, i'd imagine you'd have to take yours off to install the OEM sideskirts.. b/c if those sideskirts were OEM, then those padded things werent there from factory, the sideskirts were. As for the buttons, u might have to drill your own holes.

but, im no professional, just throwing my 2 cents in to try an help.

i take that back, mine doesnt have the back padding, mine has the front ones, i did leave those on though.

so yea, i'd imagine you have to take those off to install the new ones.

So those buttons line up exactly for the feed skirts?

This sucks. I mean i dont mind drilling my own holes, its just that now the holes would be permanant. I dont care because they are unseen but i just hate that feeling knowing i made my "own" holes that didnt come from factory on the body i can never undo.

But if thats what everyone did to install their OEM skirts, i have no choice.

Remove the black padding and drill your own holes. Line the side skirt up and drill your own holes. Remove the side skirts to expose the new holes and use rust protective coating around the area if your worried. Install the side skirts and you should be good to go. I would recommend that fiberglass the two piece side skirt into one piece, it definitely look cleaner in my opinion.

1st, you REMOVE the hoist pad or whatever you call it to install the side skits, second of all those holes aren't made for side skirts.. Just drill into the body, thats what I did with my feed side skirts

Well ill find out whats the deal with these when i try to put these on tomorrow.

Im gonna start bottom, then up.

Cause at least if the fitment is not well, im gonna stop and just sell these.

I dont want to make holes in the rear fenders, then find out it doesnt fit and have 2 holes there i cant undo.

How is the paint holding up on them ? I gave up on two OEM sets since the flex agent wouldnt hold on the very old urathane skirts.

My only option was glue & scew them on then, prime and paint . I passed ....

Tried the Shine replicas also, they were a poor copy of the OEM's We couldnt get those to fit either. No diss on Shine parts , they make good stuff but then OEM skirts werent good

Paint is looking great on the skirts although i had them indoors since i bought them which was about a year ago so i dont know if that has something to do with it.

I pretty much "placed" them on the car and so far it looks like it can match. All i have to do is remove this black hoist pad to make it a better fit, then drill from the bottom and it looks like it will be secure. Then work my way up.

Im still having doubts if i should do this but ill let you guys know what happens.
