Odometer Works But Speedometer Doesn't - Help Please
I have done extensive searching and lots of trial and error. Any help is appreciated.
Please see the attachment, this shows tons of trial and error. I bought an entire working JDM cluster and have been able to prove that it is my speedometer itself that is the problem.
What would cause the odometer to work but not the speedometer needle? I assume that if power and ground is reaching the odometer that the needle would also get power. As shown in the matrix, the tach is only operable when the good speedometer is in. This means to me that the power or ground is not transferring to the tach.
Background: The initial problem was an intermittent tach with a perfect speedometer. I replaced capacitors with no success. I then tried jumping a ground and 12v to the tach. This did nothing except only make both of them turn on when the interior lights were on (because of the 12v wire I used). I then installed a JDM green face tach. Neither the speedometer or tach at this point worked and I am unsure where the cause came from for the speedometer. The tach works with the JDM speedometer.
I could convert the JDM speedometer with my US parts as per a how to I have seen but I would prefer not to.
I have a lot more info to explain if needed, this is the short version .
Again, please see the attached matrix as it proves what works and why.
Thanks in advance.
