No power to amps
No power to amps
I am ready to pull my hair out! What I have done:
Installed a second amp, ran the power cable from the battery to a splitter with two 50 amp fuses. One amp is a 4 channel amp and running Infinity Crossovers & Infinity 6 x 9's. The second amp is a 2 channel that I am running my two subwoofers off of. Everything was working until a raccoon ran out in front of me and I slammed on the brakes. I mounted the amp running my subwoofers on the subwoofer box, the weight shifted the speakers and I lost my right side. It was the RCA connection so I replaced it, ran all the wires through flex tubing and down under the carpet. Everything worked fine, I put the interior back together and went to bed. The next morning I get up get in my car turn it on and no power to the amps, nothing. I replaced the battery wire, still no power to the amps. Checked the remote connection to the stereo, nothing. Checked all the fuses, nothing.
I have an Eclipse stereo. Is it the stereo? I have reached my limitations and I was supposed to leave for Idaho this morning and I am not leaving until I have music.

Get a volt meter out and measure the voltage of the power leads @ the amps, and measure the voltage of the remote switch wire @ the amps too. Use the ground wire of the amps as your ground wire for the volt meter. Maybe there is power, just not enought to power the amps. I had similar power problems a while back, just got out the trusty multimeter.
The only thing that made sense to me was a problem with the stereo itself so I went and bought another one, a Pioneer. I figured if it wasn't the stereo I needed another one anyway for the 90 I recently bought.
What I found out was I didn't have heavy enough wire coming from the battery, at least that is what I was told by the person who installed the stereo. I rewired the power wires and everything worked.
We will see if it lasts!
