Does anyone know about NMEA 2000, or its potential non-marine uses.

Essentially I would really love to have something like this

I do not know, however, if it will read any of the sensors on our cars (I have an FC), or if there are any sensors (NMEA 2000 certified I guess?) that would (with or without modification) be able to be used in our cars.

If anyone has any information on this, or can point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated. My dad has some gauges like this on his boat, but knows nothing about the setup.

Edit: I do understand that the ECU and gauges like this may not read the same type of sensors, and so I may end up with multiple sensors of various types. I am just curious.
