New JL Audio Speakers

Well,

I took the dive and bought one of the only two new JL Audio subs in Shreveport, the JL Audio 12W1v2-8 and theres on left (which I plan on getting a long with an amp) and let me tell you, it freaking rattles my head out with just one bumping on NO AMP!

10 out of 10

I just put 1 - 8" JL in the back running off a 300watt amp and 2 - 6x9 infinity and 2 - 4" infinity, and let me tell you it's like a concert in my little 7.
Those JL kickers are incredible.

i've heard alot of good things about the jl audio subs. my old 85 rx7 had four 12" pioneer "impp" subs. they were fairly cheap and worked real well. i wish i was able to swap those for the jl's back then with the same amp power and tested the spl. unfortunately i never did.

my plan with my new 85 rx7 is to build the exact same box (actually i should say boxes since each pair of subs was seperated to the other), but im leaning towards the jl 12". my other choice is the alpine type S.

my old system was measured at 143.6db, and the subs were run by 2 phoenix gold ms-275 amps. one amp per pair of subs. i believe the amps ran 150rms watts per sub when bridged. not a ton of power, but it was really clean sounding, and very powerful. this time around i definately want to beat the 143.6db. the plan is to reach 150db. believe me. that is enough!

I am a VERY BIG fan of JL subs..
I was big into stereo in mid 90s and only one that survived my listening habit was JL 10W6s.. I still have them to this date and now its in my daily (one of my 2 subs blew).

I now have 10w7 which I'm going to put into my 7.. I've heard it thru someone else's car and its just amazing.!

I'm running two JL 10W0s in my FD. Eventually, I'll have something clean and custom made for just one 12.

piano - you have such a nice looking fd, but such an UGLY box, find somebody to custom make you a nice black box to match your interior... do something like my setup, it will look awesome in your car

(more pix at my cardomain, click the link in my sig)

oh, and related to JL's... they are indeed awesome, once I upgrade, I'll be putting JL's in

Seriously, the box is not THAT bad. I agree that it does look a bit awkward, but I think UGLY is pushing it. The sound system in my car is not my main concern. Eventually, I will get to something more custom and sleek, but until then, I'll keep my current setup. I seldom even open the hatch, and you can barely see the color of the carpet on the box with through the glass. (yes it is slightly off-center in the picture, I know).

really?? thats the w7 killer??
Wondering what the 10s look like.. I have 10w7 and its massive with the longest driver I have ever seen in subs.
Also, I'm not a fan of anything bigger than 10s.

Here are the 10" versions

The 15" is 55lbs, but most importantly the sub has XBL^2 enabled motor technology, which is a high efficiency design, but still able to handle over 2000wrms.

I made the enclosure! I'm currently making another one about .5cuft larger. The old one had an air leak that I could not trace down. If you check my cardomain page I have a step by step process on how to build one. Let me know if i can help.

I thought this amp was like the walmart series or something? I don't really follow sound systems that much!
