Damn, you can't even show people anything you had done to your car without the admins going off. He shows a new product he had made, a couple people show interest, and immediately mods are quoting forum rules, you guys need to settle down. Sorry Mike for this post, but ever since BananaRE's thread (with pics for everyone to see) got closed, this type of **** has pissed me off.

Maybe a board veteran can chime in here. I remember something about Mazdatrix (I think) having mats made with "RX-7" embroidered on them. Weren't they asked to cease production by Mazda for copyright reasons ... or something like that?

Just a heads up... not to pee on the campfire.

So to have a GB here you HAVE to donate part of that GB's money???

That has to be the most dictatorship, ruling bullshit I have ever heard. We are all in the RX7 community for the love of teh car and helping each other out, but now if multiple people want the same thing and they have a way to save money someone thinks they deserve a cut?? I don't give a damn whose on this website, that is being greedy and selfish. I'm sorry, but this type of attitude and ruling really burns me.

amraam,

I know how you feel. When I first heard of approvals for GB it kinda burned me up also. However, if you consider the cost of the site and keeping this forum running....I don't think it is unreasonable.

The GB for the RX-8 shiftknobs was only an addition $5 to the cost.

I fully understand that, but I guess I am a hardcore conservative and to that I say....BOO HOO. If you have to cry poor, or complain about extra work it takes to do something then drop it. Trust me, there will be someone more than happy to pick up the pieces and do things like that.

The only thing this GB and many others have in common is that it needs a place for it to be visually seen by many people. It's clear you can't do all this through email, telephone so they know they have you and charge money. It's like paying to cross a bridge. If I want to go to NYC I have to pay to cross the bridge...if not, tough **** I don't get to go.

Count me in for a set of tan. Also I don't think the admins/site are getting rich here. A small premium on group buys is reasonable IMO.

why don't you just have everyone that wants one pm you? Once you have done that, have everyone send you the money via paypal so that everyone know if there is any rip off going to happen they can just get their money back. Once the person has the money in the paypal account you make the order.

ps. can they make second gen floor mats in grey with black lettering? Thanks.

the reason for charging is this: the site needs to make more money, so they have a couple options: 1) charge everyone, 2) charge all sales, and 3) charge all group buys... anyway 1 is ridiculous, 2 there are too many, and 3 is just right... a few are made, and a littl emoney is generated... its good for the forum

ok I guess I agree with that. but the only problem is, is that who is making money here? I mean we are going to give just enough to buy the mats. Where is this extra money?

AMRAAM4,

how much do you pay to frequent this forum? Well, servers and bandwidth costs money and *somebody* is paying the bills, and it sure as hell ain't you! What's $5 to help with the expense of keeping this site up? If 20 sets of mats gets sold, that's $100 to the forum. Now seriously, do you think anyone is getting "rich" over $100? Personally, I don't have a problem donating $5 to the forum for a sanctioned group buy, and to use your example of, "We are all in the RX7 community for the love of teh car and helping each other out..." Well, isn't this the point?

Speedking, I agree whole-heartedly with your point, and I would gladly pay a membership fee to be a part of this site for a year at a time (an example). However, this requirement for a GB cost doesn't come across all happy and nice. More like extortion. A ruling from the higher beings. A dictatorship. And the reason it comes across like this is because of various other things that are done around here (other web forums have the problem too) that is like **** rule. I know many of you think we should be sooo thankful for this site, or that RX7store and their shitty service should be overlooked because they sponsor it, but I cannot do that and I am sorry. That's not to say I am against helping a fellow RX7 owner in need or hanging with any of you socially, however.

ok, i sent a pm to an admin and i am waiting for a reply on some group buy info. I allready posted contact information for the company that i ordered the mats from. If you do not like the "forum donation" fee that is apparently required for a GB you may purchase the mats directly. The point of a group buy is to save you, the end user some money and make a product much more accessible to you. I was willing to donate my time in organizing/ordering and shipping the product to help other owners as they have helped me.
edit-I will have to check if they have a pattern for a second gen mat as well as what colors are available and if the discount applies to only 1 type or as many types as i need. once a admin sees this post please pm me as i would like to know the GB details to set one up.

Not a good idea.. If any of the forum admins found out that you are carrying out a "illegal" GB.. which I think pming to each other is kind of sneaky and borderline illegal GB.

$3-5 per item or straight $100 dollar donation is not bad when 20+ people split that donation..

I donated 150 to the forum for the last GB.. 8 of the people didn't pay of the donation (outside of the forum).. but I still donated 150 (I would like to give credit to all of you who got in on my last GB.. they donated the most not me).

We all know that it cost money to run a server.. So, why not give a little to help out.. Most of us love to take.. Not give.. If it wasn't for this forum, I wouldn't of met over half of the 7 owners i know, I would know nothing about the 7, and I'll probably have 100 stickers on my car and only thing I would have is an exhaust. ok.. thats little more stretched out.. But we all agree that this forum is the best informative sites on the internet.. Just by GB's like this, we save 25-70% under retail.. My GB was around 40% below retail.

Hi. I've been doing business with Automat for the last 10 years or so. they do a lot of custom interiors, tops, wheels, seats and stuff like that. Really good quality overall. They basically can make whatever you want in whatever quality you want. It aint cheap though. Considering you can get brand new mats from Mazdatrix for $49.99 I wonder how many people are actually going to pony up the cash. Most people back down so don't lay out your own money on this tobecont.

FYI, the units from Mazdatrix aren't embroidered. They fit good and all but lack the RX-7 embroidery.

Im sure if you bought the mats from Mazdatrix, you could take them to the neighborhood embroidery shop and have them done for 20-30 bucks a piece.

Or I know I could just make a call to my grandma and the only thing I would do is take her out to lunch

I smell a group buy!
I'll bid a ham on rye
I think you've just found a hidden supplier, maybe her quilting club can make a couple extra bucks.
