if you have experience in auto body please chime in. i recently had side skirts fitted. the side skirt is secured with fasteners along the bottom and ends followed by double sided tape along the entire length of the top. my problem is the double sided tape around the middle area of the side skirt isn't adhering to the skirt itself and remains on the body of the car. i'm trying to find a solution to get the middle area to adhere to the body without removing the side skirt and reapplying the tape. my idea is to apply some sort of liquid adhesive with a thin applicator(like a credit card) along the portion of tape that isn't adhering. question is what sort of adhesive should be used?

 

I am a proffesionl bodyman, and I actually just had to deal with this o nmy own car. Assumign your sides are fiberglass, there will be a little bi tof flew to them, so, use something to wedge the away from the body a little bit, and rough up th esurface with some sandpaper of a grinder if u have a steady hand, use a 2 part epoxy used for metal as well as th ematerial your side skirt is, I use a product called MA300 by a copnay called Plexxus, but, a decent brand name adhesive will work(3M, JB weld, Gorilla Glue, ect). Just mix teh two patrts according to the directions and spread it to your car, remove th ewedges and press the side skirt to the car, depending on dry times, you can either press it till ti sets up, or using protection for your paint, clmaps or vise grips. Im sure other guys will have opther methods, but, for me, that works and it is extremely unlikely to come back apart, I have yet to have that method fail.

 

i'm not sure if your familiar with the OEM side skirts for a 3rd gen rx7 but theyre made of some kind of rubber, very soft and very flexible. now the middle section which isn't adhering isn't peeled off drastically since the side skirt is securely fastened and i don't want to risk cracking the paint or peeling off more areas by pulling it out a bit to make room for touching up the area. the tape has some adhesion left on it because i can push the side skirt back against the body and it'll stick for a moment and then peel back. there must be some sort of adhesive i can apply directly and only to the side of tape that wont adhere to the side skirt itself. i've been looking over the 3m catalog and can't seem to find any adhesive to match the description.
