aftermarket hoods "should" be ok without hood pins

i would put them closer to the front. to stop the sides from flapping at high speeds

I dont have an aftermarket hood, but I did install hood pins on my stock hood cause my latch was bad. But about aftermarket hoods, most manufacturers say it is a good idea to install hood pins. Usually it's cause the latch on the hood is not as sturdy as the stock unit.

It was pretty easy to install, I just had to figure out where to punch the first hole. To mark the spot I already had the the threaded pin in place at the approximate hieght. I wrapped some a paper towel on the pin and used some rubber bands to make it snug on the top of the pin. I then used some white out to paint the top of the pin and I coled the hood down on the pin before the white out dried. This left a mark on the bottome of the hood, and that was the spot I drilled through.

I used a dremel with drill bit and drilled the initial hole. After that was done I just widened the hole in the right direction, using the same drill. I just kept the drill bit in the hole and moved it left, right, forward, backward to widen the hole. I kept opening and closing the hood and looking through the top of the hood to see which direction I needed to widen the hole. I'm not sure if the same technique will work for FB or CF hoods though.

Once the hole was big enough for the threaded pin to go through You drill some holes for the mounting screws and you screw the plate with the ring and locking peg in place. Once that thing is one there you just have to fine tune the height of the threaded pin so that it is not to low or to high.

Here is a pic and 4 possible locations that you can use. I would use the ones closer to the middle/front of the hood (between headlights) instead of the ones to the rear of each headlight. With the rubber bumers gone on the far left and far right, my hood now sits a bit lower since it is not resting on the stoppers.

And don't you ever forget to put the pins back on before driving off! I've heard of 2 flyin' hoods so far...
