My stereo sounds like *** (2nd gen)

I need help picking out some parts for my FC. I already have a head unit (Pioneer DEHP-7000R). I also have 4" JBLs in the front dash and 6.5" Cheap Cerwin Vega's in the back. There is 1 10" sub back there, forgot what kind, powered by a Sony sub.

I'm not an audiophile, I just want it to sound decent. Right now, it sounds worse than the stock stuff. i don't know how to tune this crap correctly

also, there are spots for 2 6.5" speakers IN the front doors that I don't have anything in.

I'm looking to get rid of the sub box because it weighs too much. I'm open to buying new speakers, and maybe another amp.

SUGGESTIONS PLEASE!!!!

Just route your blow off valve inside the cabin if you want something to listen too..

what sort of budget do you need to stay around, and what amps do you currently have?

I don't remember the model numbers, I'm going to post that info tonight when I get home. My amp is an older sony (about 3 years old) that does (I believe) 2x50. I have it bridged and running my one sub right now.

I would like to stay as close to $500 as possible. Is this even feasible?

Providing your head unit and amp are decent, then you should be able to get a couple of sets of new speakers for that much.

The speakers are generally the first things to replace on your quest for better sound.

What you should look to do is decide what speakers you want to replace. I would recommend the ones closest to you first, like the front doors and dash, then the rears, then the sub.

The dash takes a metric 5 which is really a 4 1/2" speaker. Most larger 4 inch speakers will fit just fine.

The door is a true 6". So most 6" and 6 1/2" speakers should fit fine, but some of the bigger 6 1/2" speakers like the 6 1/2 MB quarts will not. The rears are generally the same.

You should go down to a couple of the local stereo shops and chain stores (best buy, Circuit, mom and pops local stereo store, etc) and listen specifically to speakers that will fit and nothing else. Bring a CD of the music you like and are very familiar with.

I am rather partial to the Alpines, JL Audio, DEI Audio, MB Quart, and some of the Pioneers, some of the Polks, some of the Infinitys. But the big key is to listen to a couple different speakers, at a couple of different places to see what you like the best. Then after you have driven all over town, then decide which one will work best for you based on your budget and what you liked as far as sound. Every persons ear hears a little different, so your best buddy that swears that the Pioneer 6 1/2" triax speaker is the best in the world, may not be the best for you. Listen to see what you like. DON’T GO BY SPECS like power handling. BTW: speaker power handling doesn’t mean a thing, you can blow up a speaker rated for 100 watts with 15 watts faster than 150 watts. Speakers should be judged on how they sound at a particular price.

Speaker install is generally pretty easy if you want to save yourself the install labor if you keep the same size as what is the factory speaker. But polarity is important and if you get it wrong the speakers can sound worse than a pair of 3" speakers sitting on the floor.

So I could fit a 4.5" component set in the dash?
