My FC project updat

Okay if no one wants to read all my typing and wants to see pics then click on the link at the bottom to se them. And to those who like to give a helping hand and give ther thaughts please read all this and be kind with your input..Everything i did i did myself and figured it out by myself by trial and error and lots of internet reading. This is my first project car and im trying to do her right(haha i said "do her right")..Enjoy!!

I am in the middle of molding the MIB body kit to my car and also the 13bre engine swap. I will also be installing the Energy Suspension poly bushings to stiffen things up a bit.

I decided to do a R32 skyline taillight conversion to chang up the looks and do something different for a change. I dont know how exactly i will put them in but i think i will sheet metal the whole taillight area from the top of the rear bumper to the rx7 logo and cut some holes for the taillight to mount in from the inside of the hatch area, wittout the white covers on? Any ideas and thaughts would help..I will be shaving the door handles off soon and putting in poppers that will be controled with a Viper 791XV alarm and built in turbo timer..

So far i have about 20 hours in sanding and fiberglassing the passenger side only and i still have more to go.

Beware to all who would like the MIB body kit from NRG Motortrend because the side skirts do not come close to matching the body form and need alot of modding to make them fit. The company told me that "I am the only one that has ever had that problem and they are sorry but they wont change ther design to accomodate one person"..Bull **** huh? What I did was cut the side skirt from the front of the skirt and section it out by about 2'' or so and scre it on then fill in the gaps with Great Stuff foam and fill in from ther with fiberglass jelly. It turned out pretty good. With some primer and paint you wont be able to tell what was done

I repainted my whole interior black because it was the ugly maroon color, anyone need tips let me know??

And last i had the engine bay stripped down to nothing and sanded it down and painted it black, now i have to figuire out wher everything goes,haha..*slaps himself*** I dont have pics of that yet but give me a day or so and i will. I could not figure out how to post the pics in my threat so i posted this link to photo bucket wher i do have them. All the pics are kinda close up because i am working on the 7 in a 15x10 storage unit garage untill it warms up and i get my own garage..

To be completely honest with you I dont know what all you need exactly down to the button? As far as I know, you just need all the T2 drivetrain components. You cant use a N/a tranny with a T2 rear diff, unless you get MazdaTrix adapting driveshaft. If you use T2 trans then you need T2 rear end etc.. C'mon im a newbee and im still in babysteps of the whole rx7 thing.. Id be lost without this place,lol..Ask ReTed or AAronCake, they'll know for sure.
Thanks for the coment, and ill be going to work on the car again later and I will get some more pics of the engine bay etc. Hey Funk, does the idea of how to put those tails in sound about right? Do you have a link of the FC with these tailights with pics so I can get a reference. Thats cool someone else did it, I thaught I was the only one brave enough to attempte this?

Yeah that sounds realy cool about the meet. I would like to goto one when my car is all back together and all.. How many people goto it? When and where does it take place? What part of Wi are you from?
I havnt gotten around to working on my car the last few days because I just got a new winter beater (91 Grand Prix) and I am replacing the crankshaft pulley dampner to get me to and from work, but in the next day or so I am taking the 7 to a friends house and we are going to start the taillights and shave the door handles. I also have to make a brace for the front body kit bumper to mount to the 1/4 pannel. Do you people normaly have to cut the pannel in half at the marker light to make the mounting point or do you get new fenders? Just curiouse because I didnt want to be the guy that chopped up his pannel for that when I could have sold them and got the right ones,lol.. Thanks for all the comments fella's...

Okay fellas here are some more pictures that I have been busy with at the moment.. I actually just got the bright idea to do a home made custom wide body kit and it seemed farely easy and strait forward? I was at work today and gave it alot of thaught and figuired I would go for it and try it out, this is what I came up with..

I went to Home Depot and picked up some 5ft x 3 1/2ft 1/4 inch thick expanded styrene foam and some 3 inch x 8ft 1/4 inch foam from my work and just started to lay it together. Those big silver gray round spots are big *** washers that keep the foam from giving way held in by wood screws. And I used a Foam/Wood Rasp to file it to the shape I wanted. Then I plastered Bondo and wallah, I have a wide body kit. Total cost was about $35. With this idea someone could make some molds and sell them and make good money. Lay down some plastic or a sheet befor the foam and when you bondo, dont cover the screw heads that way you can take them out when its all hardened and dried????Just a thought.

I finally figuired out how to mount the tail lights in ther final resting places, and I used Great Stuff foam to fill in gaps so that the fiber glass/bondo has a backing to rest against. I am doing one side first to see how that idea works? I want to make them sit in position with no seams, just the shaved look. LOL.. Tomorrow I will put some pics of what the car began and what it is now..Whats everyones take on this?

u did it all wrong.... The foam for the wide body is okay, u should of layd resin and fiberglass matt, then 1 thin coat of glaze and that would of been virtually bullet proof! That bondo is gna crack for sure....

not unless he is using the stock fenders and buildup as a plug for a mold. then after that, lay some filler, smooth it out, then use some mold release wax, make a mold, then the plug. then take all that crap off and swap it off for the widened fiberglass fenders. saves weight and you have the plug if you want to make more or widen it again!!

peace

I guess any feed back is good feed back? Im here to learn and give ideas..
I am going to leave the fender in its place and im not going to be making any molds for production. Like magus2222 said, im doing a build up over the fender and plan on keeping it that way untill a new idea pops in my head down the road. Even with the wider fenders as a build up you think it will still crack? I dont know the expansion rate of bondo, but what if I laid down some matting and then some resin over the bondo shell? Or even the bondo brand of bondo glass resin jelly? Would that make it pretty tough? Thanks for the input guys

Nice work bud, you sure have your work cut out and nice job on your lrear ights, I cant wait to see them finished!

On a downer though, you need to get rid of the foam and fibreglass over it as one of the others said, it will crack and perish then you will be stuck with a crap body job. Even if you shape it with foam then lay glss over the top will be beter than just with foam and filler. I know what I would do though.

Good luck none the less

darn. you should have kept the buildup you did, but fiberglassed over the top, then torn it down. at least then you would have a really nice fiberglass overlay to work with.
good job though

NVM.. reread the thread and saw that you are starting over.

good luck, you can achieve that look you where going for , in a better/easier way.

Look for fiberglass fenders already made, then mold them in.

Everything you've done on that car will crack. Soon.

I'm glad you decided to go another route, you've obviously got some ambition, but as a body man - those pics just make me shudder.

Best of luck with the car!
