Most Conservative 2nd gen front end radio install?

I have a 1990 Convertible. The Radio is of course not the best andI am not thinking about replacing the head unit. At the current time, I have upgraded doors, subs and headrest speakers with POLK speakers. I have left the head unit alone because I like the stock look. BUT the CD is jumpin again and I do not want to repair again. QUESTION is this: What recommendations can this board make regarding CONSERVATIVE Front End systems that FULLY fill the opening that is now taken up by the AM/FM/TAPE/CD Amp switch. I don't want to have any 'created' plastic filler panels because they never really match. From what I can tell, Blaupunkt makes the most conservative systems and I may be able to get the AM/FM tape system installed in the top, and the CD changer installed below it. Any thoughts in this matter? TIA

Nothing aftermarket will completely fill the hole like the stock deck without custom fabing a trim plate or using a kit.

That is what I have seen. The best I can get is 4*7 which is a Blaupunkt LongBeach unit along with the Blaupunkt 6CD changer below it. That would still leave 1/2"right and left and an inch above and below. That is not good because in 1989 the console panel already had a small filler strip, 'step' and adding this would look well, n/g.
Hoping others have had success with say a front end unit from a Maxima or Pathfinder....Bose systems in both but I do not have dimensions

Both the Pathfinder and Maximas both have standard Din sised units, as well as the BOZO... whoops I mean Bose systems require the Bose amp and Bose speakers to work correctly.

Frankly the Bose systems in cars generally leave much to be desired as far as sound quality goes. They are great if you have lost all your uper end hearing and don't like too much bass, but they are very lacking other than that. But they are cheap for car manufactures to install and they have a good name in the consumer world.

What you might try is one of the Alpine or Pioneer GM/Chrysler sized units.

You still would be required to make a trim panel for below, but they may be the right width for a series 5 FC.
