Look what 10 years of sunbaking can do to a speaker...

thanks WaLieN but what I meant was that I was putting a new amplifier to drive my front speakers and my rear speakers (roughly 100 watts to each aftermarket speaker) and was curious if I left the center channel amplifier hooked up would it be damaged? Also I am using the factory radio harness that is behind the radio to power the front speakers because I cant go through the door harness...and I have the crossovers installed on the doors...can the factory harness wires handle 100 watts roughly or is the wire too small.

Thanks

I don't recall the size of the wiring at the moment, but it's good you're considering it...

Anyway, that depends what "kind" of 100W your planning on running. 100Wrms continuous, right? 100Wrms to a 4ohm load will suck through 20Arms. Compare another ~20A accessory's wire size to the stock speaker wire size, and you'll have an answer.

Then again, if you're not cranking it to max power, it'll probably be fine. I have a feeling many people are doing the same thing, since that door harness is such a PITA to deal with.

As for the center channel speaker, thanks for clearing up the differences, walien.

But, HYDOUKEN, keep in mind you're sending at least double the voltage signal to the center channel amp. P=V^2/R, so quadrupling the power means you're sending double voltage. The inputs will probably survive, but that amp will probably clip and eat itself or possibly the center speaker. It'd be interesting to see if anyone on here has run 100W continuous without removing the center channel.

Well until I find out if the center channel can survive this type of input then I will probably remove it. Also InsaneGideon I do plan on running 100wrms to my speakers. Do you think that the harness behind the radio can handle this power to the front speakers......as for the rear speaker I am running a 12guage wire from the amp straight to the rear speaker. And I am running a 8 guage power wire to the amp. Let me know what you guys think about running the power to the front speakers....and center channel.

Thanks
