I have new led rings being made, I am hoping for them to be brighter than the superbrightled rings. They should be coming in on Monday so I will be comparing them soon.

Here are my new rings compared to the superbrightled ones. Overall the qaulity, brightness, and number of leds surpass the superbrightled rings. Now I need to figure out what to do with them.

I have no numbers only what my eyes can tell me. In the picture the superbrightleds are on the right and mine on the left.

Why would you want to have amber lights on, on the back of your car when not signaling your direction? I think it can confuse drivers.

BTW, I saw this at DGRR and have been wondering ever since.

I think your led rings are just what I'm looking for on my project. What ring diameters are available?

Holy 8 month ago post of mine with just now response!

And no comments on the brightness of them? That's the most impressive thing about them, they are brighter than the stock lights and are safe. Saw Rich's at DGRR when he pulled in one evening and could barely tell they were on. I felt very good about the improvements I made.

Regarding the amber rings, the inner section of them very brightly blinks for the turn signals. Hard to get confused and you are the first person out of many that has mentioned that. Could swap out the amber rings for red I guess.

Back on topic, what are the specs in terms of brightness of the "new" rings you've found? Are those the 5050 units or something else? The Superbright ones are 3528 smds.

Finally, something new, a convertor for 2 wire units (our turn signals). Allows them to used as 3 wire units, or to stay on as parking brakes and then be used as turn signals also. I had to hand wire mine and these would have come in handy:

Yea I know, this thread was bumped and I was re reading it and came across your post. It jogged my memory to when I saw them at deals gap and I figured I would ask you.

IMO, the only time yellow/amber should be displayed at the rear of a vehicle is when it is using its directionals. Orange "parking" lights are for the front of a vehicle.

"And no comments on the brightness of them?" I am sorry I did not give you a high five at deals gap for making the tail lights brighter. Next time I see you I will make sure to do so.

The lights are brighter, we all know that, you proved that; what more do you want me to say? Congratulations? Do I need to stroke your ego some more?

Also, I think if you are so concerned about the brightness and visibility so much, why would't you keep the stock tail lights and make them LED? There is more surface area to light up and will then be more visible so you wont have to worry as much about someone rear ending your baby.

Got it. Everyone is entitled to his/her opinion on the lights. I had a bunch of guys pm me and ask me to redo their GB lights or simply make new ones and they all had differences in opinion of what they liked best. Ended up doing just one other set at no cost for one of our military members on the forum and he opted for just the two red rings. To each his own and that is the cool thing about custom mods.

Regarding the brightness issue, that is exactly what I had prior to being sucked into the Theorie GB fiasco. I was very happy with the stock units and had installed LEDs to improve the brightness of the units. They worked really well. Never considered changing to the 99 spec look until Tom came out with his new design and here I am now with the result of the GB and having to fix the issue. The 3 ring design is my own personal spin on Tom's design and with my wide back end, think it complements the car better.

Finally, I have no issues with brightness out of what I have done. See the other threads on testing of brightness versus the stock units versus the 99 spec units. To often we argue opinion on this forum but the numbers speak for themselves on the issue. My redesign is brighter than either of the setups so no need to worry. Check them out next time at DGRR and you'll see they are an improvement over either of the stock units. And no, they aren't too bright either as they fall into DOT specs. Definitely on the brighter end of the range but within it. As the units are completely adjustable, you can set them to whatever you like so I chose not to blind the person behind me by adjusting them down and using a light meter to ensure they fell within DOT specs.

David, I can't figure out what kind of led's they are. They are so small I can barely see them I would have to tear them apart to find some numbers.

I'd like to check them out for curiosity. Maybe a future project. Can I get some from you or thru a pm get a link? Very interesting find. Not interested in making product for sale.

Another aside - I'm looking into adding on a component that turns the three rings into turn signal blinkers like the Mustang does. Will this madness ever stop?
