LED are really efficient (would love to have h4 led for headlights) but not sure how reliable this source is but....

Check out the "Eagle Eye Tower" 11 Super-Power Wide Angle High Flux LEDS. They have one 3 watt LED and 10 side facing LEDs. Would probably work well but I don't know what the wattage is when you turn the lights on versus what it is when you hit the brakes. With the ones I ordered, they came on at 3 watts and went to 5 watts when hitting the brakes.
My choice would be these, the "Eagle Eye 5". They are 5 watt bulbs so I would assume when in parking light mode, would be less than 5 watts and when you hit the brakes would go to 5 watts. Someone (Rich) order a set and report back. Remember to order them in the color of the plastic lens cover, or red.

Have you guys seen this three year old post? I have 288 led lights per brake light with my setup. I doubt any of the drop in led bulbs will be brighter than my setup. Its a getto install but not one led has failed in the last three years.

The car is at Kilo Racing right now (isn't it always?) but I will trace this down and get back to you. I would imagine you could use whatever circuit the dome lights are on to accomplish this as they come on when the doors are opened. Can't think offhand of any other lights that do this so that might be your answer. I also know the wires terminate in the driver's footwell area so i bet there is a circuit there that was tied into.

Yeah I saw the list you made earlier but that website just isn't the most user friendly thing ever. I'll just have to take my time on there to make sure I am ordering the right ones. Has anybody tried those Eagle Eye 5's for the brake lights?

The definitive exterior LED list
So I have been asked to post up a list of the LED bulbs I recommend for the exterior of your car. First, the list of LED bulbs I recommend, unless otherwise noted, were purchased from www.superbrightleds.com. Yes, the site is pretty crappy but you can find the ones I have listed with a little searching. There are a few exceptions to this so look at the links I have provided for each bulb.
Second, I have tried many, many bulbs to determine which ones are the brightest and which work the best. Based on my experience, there are several rules to follow:
1) Always match the color of the lens for the best light output. For amber color lenses, use amber LEDs, for red, use red LEDs, and for white lenses, use white LEDs. If you don't you will not be pleased with the light output. It doesn't matter that the bulb you are replacing is white, with LEDs always match the exterior lens color for best results.
2) If you want the best light output, always look for "circuit mounted" LEDs. These are usually described as high output LEDs and are generally 3-5 watts. You can usually tell these from the ones that aren't so bright because they are larger LEDs and come mounted in squares on a circuit board. Also, the larger the circuit mounted LED is, usually the brighter it will be. So, you'll note some LEDs list 48 or so circuit mounted LEDs while others only list a few larger circuit mounted ones. I have found the larger ones are brighter. In general, every LED I have recommended falls into this category. Another way to tell is if you can find it at Pep Boys, it probably isn't a circuit mounted LED
3) You get what you pay for. The less expensive LEDs have a much lesser light output so I would avoid these. If you don't have enough money for everything on the list (about $250) buy some a little at a time. No need to rush into this as your current bulbs have lasted for 15 years right and why replace them with crap? I have also noticed that LED pricing has stabilized over the last year or so so I don't know if they will continue to come down in the near future. Maybe these will make the perfect Christmas gift right?
