Lambo-doors....?
Lambo-doors....?
I know most people consider them ricey, and Ive heard lots of bad things about construction quality etc.... But I saw them on a FD today and talked to the guy who installed it, and spent some time messing with them.
First off, I dont like the way they work stock, but if they were slightly modified, theyd work great.
Things I dont like about them:
No matter how much people try to get away from it, other peoples opinions matter to us, as I stated lots of people think theyre ricey, but if theyre done well, they ARE partially functional.
The mechanism. I dont like it much because first you have to open the door and swing it out like normal (only about 8 inches or so) then it swings up on gas shocks. Seems lame to me that you have to swing them out like that but its reallistically the only way to do it on a car not originally designed for them.
Cheapness of build/generic design. They arent designed for a specific car (at least not that Ive found) so you have to deal with a generic hinge that will work on most cars.
Things I like:
You DO get more room to open the door and get out, especially in tight parking situations, which for me going to college, is nice.
It is fairly unique, and function does follow form, so its not as bad as adding a giant 3 foot tall wing or nonsensical decals.
Anyway, my idea to make it work a bit better. Add a spring on the swinging part of the hinge, so when you release the latch on the door, it swings out on its own, and then only needs a little help to swing up. I didnt get a close enough look at it to see if it was possible, but I assume its been done by someone. Other ideas? *flame suit on* :P

I have them on my FD and they are ok ..
Not as spectacular as they were when i got them 2 years ago .. but when you live in a place that doesnt see to much Mainstream modifications.. the lambo doors do attract a lot of attention especially at a gas station..
