Just got the Rex back from the upholsterer & couldn't be happier! (pics)

So I dropped off my FD to have the driver's side bolster re-covered in leather with new foam and asked the guy to create some sort of an armrest for my left elbow.

I no longer need to deal with the cheepo plastic bin cover creaking or falling off when I slam the door shut. I never used the bin to store anything, as I would just rattle or slide around, & comfort for my elbow is much more important!

I am so please with the outcome, that words can't do it justice! Here are the pics:

Nice work. It looks more classy than the regular interior.

Very nice. I'm planning on doing the same thing. He did a great job of getting the leather to follow the cornerns, which can be difficult with small objects. Congrats.

Were they able to "just" do the bolster on your seat? If so, any idea of the leather they used as far as manufacturer?

Also, armrest is a great idea, does it still open or did you make it simply a rest.

Work looks super!

Cost?????

I had the work done at a local shop called Bahama Auto Seat Covers in the warehouse district here in Miami near Bird Road & the Palmetto expressway. As you can see, this guy does amazing work. He does all the warranty and non-warranty repair work for the local Ferrari/Maserati/Porsche/Jadguar/Audi/Aston Martin dealer here in Miami.

His prices for local consumers are great as he doesn't advertise or typically do business for consumers.

The armrest does not open to reveal the cubby, but that's how I requested it so that it would be as tight as possible without the possiblity of breaking off or creaking.

For the new driver's side bolster (yes, he just did that part of the seat, but I have no clue what type of leather he uses), re-dyeing of both driver and passenger seats, AND the padded armrest, he did it all for the amazing price of $300!

I've been using him for quite some time, but I know he can offer similiar pricing if you mention I sent you. He is the best priced and best quality guy around.

His name is Hernan and his info is:

Bahama Auto Seat Covers
4782 SW 75th Ave
Miami, FL 33155
305-262-0504

He deosn't speak too much english, but that's the price you pay to have artisans like this who come from other countries and show their craft to us.

Thanks for the compliments,

Ian

Hey, that looks damn good!!

I might have to stop by some day.

I'd want mine functional, though. It would bug me knowing there is a little bin there that I can't use. I've actually wondered....how nice would the interior smell if all the vinyl parts were redone in leather. I actually need to do both seats, would be nice to do that elbow rest, and I also want to do the shifter boot. Hmm....

Thanks for the info.

I bet if you got him to produce an initial run of 10 of those armrests and sold them for a reasonable price here on the forum they would sell like hotcakes. I'd be first in line. I bet there are hundreds if not thousands of FDs out there that need this.
