i currently own a JDM fd rx7 and it has a black leather back seat. It has little to no use for me or anyone that would be with me. I’m under the assumption that US versions came with the bins in the back instead of the leather seats. I was playing around with the idea of swapping to the bins because I want to do a clean battery relocation in the future. So I guess my question is, how hard is it to find a rear interior with bins? And do I have to swap side panels as well or just the center section? And also about how much does an interior with the bins cost? Thanks for any help!
you have to swap the side panels. You will need side panels, bins, rear divider, and you will want to modify the transmission tunnel cover as they are different but not really interchangeable from RHD to LHD and vice versa. I am in Indianapolis and may be interested in trading... shoot me a PM
The JDM rear seats latch to the shock towers of JDM cars. US cars don't have the latch on the shock towers.
So, no rear seat retrofit is what I would call complete or safe. Purely ornamental, although no one can fit in them anyways.
They also don't fit with the ROW center console, which the rear seats will overlap. You have to trim your center console, or break it, or rip your seats.

Well dang....sounding like a bigger hassle than I thought it would be lol I have seats now, I wanna go the other way and get some bins, I did fit a gallon of milk in the back seat once though lol!
Yeah you'll just need the bins, divider, and rear 1/4 panels. The console will be a tiny bit short and your rear carpet might be a little weird. Someone will definitely buy your rear seats, despite the caveats. A perfect rear seat set with belts and everything might get $750 if you hold out long enough. I think average around 5-600.
i have a jdm car. the seats are great for ehen you make quick stops at the market or picking up chinese food. You just plop your bag of goods in the buckets nice and safe on youre on your way !

Haha that’s exactly what they’re good for. I just like the idea of putting a battery in the bin because it’s such a clean look and helps clean up the engine bay, but if I could find a clean way to mount it in the trunk that’s an idea

I have the JDM rear seats and use them often for my son. My wife is small at 5' 1" and my son is 10 and flexible so they both fit. Not sure how much longer he will fit back there but it has been great for family cruises. No one fits behind me however.
The install is not that difficult if you find a complete set. Even trimming the center console is pretty easy, you just need a can of spray contact cement to glue the fabric back after you trim the plastic. Also, you can search ebay for the brackets that hold the seat back to the shock towers. That's the only thing that was missing from my setup and I found it for $40 on ebay.

Having both, I can say the rear seats are more utility than the bins. More space, more secure since you can put the seat belt on stuff and it's nicer. Other than the battery situation the rear seats win over the bins.
If I could have one bin and one rear seat it would be perfect 😂 my fd is my “Sunday driver” I’ve had it for over a year now and maybe put 100 miles on it. Idk that I will be picking up things with it, buuut I can definitely see where you’re coming from as far as usefulness, it’s something I’m smack dab in the middle of deciding, not leaning either way for it. If I can find a way to relocate the battery so it looks like it “came that way” (if that makes sense) and keep the seats I will. In the past with Any car that I’ve had, I’ve always tried to tastefully modify it to make it seem like it came from the factory that way, at least for people that aren’t as familiar with it as we are

Well you 100% could have both. The foam of the back seats is pretty thin and would probably cut really easily. If you cut the bin in half and overlap it with the cut edge, it can look fine. Your cuts would have to be very exact though.......... don't do that lol
