Interior questions for FD

QUESTION 1
I have recently built a MDF subwoofer box for my 2 10's. I have it mounted under the rear strut bar and towards the front it increases about 2 inches to allow for the 10" subs. The subs sit facing the seats. I have removed the plastic panel that seperates the truck from the front of the car to allow for this. I am wanting something to cover the box with to match the interior of the car. I really do not want carpet. I was thinking about covering the MDF wood with a thin layer of flat paneling wood and painting it black. I was wondering if there is any way i could match the texture of the interior instead of it being smooth ( i have a 94). Also how does this setup sound?

QUESTION 2
I have and alpine head unit that sits where the stock deck was. The old cd player has occupied the other half of the dash. I was wondering if i could aquire a plastic piece that i could mount a boost guage or amp remote or something of that nature in place of where the USELESS stock cd player sits. I am tired of people asking why I have 2 cd players.

For #1, if you want it to look like the rest of the interior and price isnt an option you could do it in the same black leather that the dash is in, idk where to get that though... There are vinyls out there that might look similar.

For #2, there is a guy who sells laser cut pieces of plexiglass that take up the empty spot under the cd player, I bought one that holds my turbo timer, profec b, and has an efini logo laser engraved on it... try searching the for sale forum or the 3rd gen section.

#1 - If you want a look similar to the interior texture, basically your only routes are leather or vinyl. Covering your box with that means all your seams will have to be smooth if you don't want them seen. Honestly, you may want to talk to a custom stereo shop about having a box built, since you need to break it up into panels to cover properly. If you are insistent on building it yourself, then I can give you some pointers that will hopefully help.

If you don't mind seeing some of the fabbing imperfections and want to try a paint route, you can cover the box with rubberized undercoating (the stuff you can get at autozone works well enough) first, which will give it that pebbly look and then paint over it.

I also recommend firing your speakers towards the back of the car, as you can typically pull a little better bass response out of them. I don't know how effective it will be in a FD, since it is already a small car with a hatch, but this is just a general rule of thumb.

As above, you don't need to hear sideband distortion or crossover leakage...put the divider back in and point the speakers towards the rear of the car.

I also vote for some type of vinyl covering.

cover it with vinyl or alcantara.

For the gauges, you can buy a defi din unit setup.
