Interior panels painted, tell me what you think

I finally got around to painting my interior panels. I decided to go with a black pearl metallic. I think it looks good with my tan interior. Let me know what you think.

Good job. At least you didn't paint them green or something. Black --> black variation is nice

Looks good except for one thing....I think you should recoat it with "semi" gloss or mix two coats (one clear, the other matte) until you get a somewhat "flatter" cover.

Its a little too shiny making it somewhat cheap looking. Apart from that its a good color choice. Flakes aren't too big and thanks for not going with a loud color.

Thanks for all the compliments. I used Testors model spray paint. I actually painted the center console a year ago to see how it would hold up, it was very tuff paint.

I am not going to go into a whole write up on how I did it (there are many out there) but here is one tip: When removing the plastic **** off the panels, heat it up first. It comes off much easier.

I will post some more pics after I put it in the car.

Thanks for the opinion, but I actually tred a semi-gloss black. I didn't like the look. I think that the gloss really contrasts the rest of the interior. I don't think it looks cheap, just different.

I'd have to agree with you on that one. Our interior is already made out of cheap crap might as well try to improve on it. I can't tell you how many flakes are coming off my center console.

Looks great BTW.

I know there are many examples of how to paint your interior plastic trim, which was why I said "How'd YOU do it?" not "How can that be done?" I wanted to know what he actually did.

His answer was sufficient in aswering my question. Just a name of the paint was all I really wanted.

Looks very nice! Though I do agree with the above post, a matte finish would look very nice.

Hurry up and install them I want to give myself more incentive to do mine

Well I got the two panels installed today. I am very happy with the way they turned out. One more tip: If you use testor's paint, sand with 400 before painting, 320 is to coarse.

Enjoy the pics:

They look great! And not an eye-sore like so many other painted interiors. Nice color choice.

I don't have the lid on there for ease of use. I use the ash tray for change and my stereo remote and it was a pain to get stuff in and out. I know it doesn't look the best, but it just makes life easier.
