How powerful is my eclipse head unit?

hey all i got this headunit with the car and i know its an Eclipse 5441 head unit but i dont know the year or how powerful it is, i need to know how powerful it is b/c i need to order new rear speakers

if you know anywhere that sells eclipse audio stuff please let me know, i havent been able to find anyone

here is a pic of it (sorry its tiny)

thats the only pic ive found of it, if you need a bigger pic i can take one

and as a side note i get alot of static from some stations and some stations arent perfect, like its has trouble locking on them - do you think this is an antenna or head unit prob, or somethin else?

thx for all your help - Jon

*sorry for double post of threads, i dont no why it did it, im gonna leave this one here just so people can see it*

The 5441 seems to be discontinued , but they still sell a 4441, which is a cassette deck version - perhaps the internals are the same

At any rate it is rated at 11 watts per channel, although if your budget permits, Id recommend buying an amp or two and running the head unit at line level - the sound will be cleaner and louder.

The static problem could be the tuner, but doubtful since its digital. Check the antenna connection and allyour grounds, and if they are good, maybe theres another antenna you can use to test it (friends car or something)

hmm, i think we do have a ground problem actually because our tach is jumpy

we got a ground kit from pettit, will that possibly fix the static or does the stereo use a different ground?

It may help, but you should re-wire the power and ground to the stereo if you have the time/ability, just to be sure they are clean. I had a huge static problem on one of my cars, removed the stereo, ran new wires and put it back - worked like a charm.

Make sure the power line isnt wrapped around/too close to the antenna cable too, and never run power parallel with speaker wires

ok we redid the car ground today and it helped a tad, not much - so it looks like im gonna have to go to circuit city and get their tool to take the head unit out and see if i can find out where all these wires are

and could i just but new rear speakers and hook them up and if the HU isnt powerful enough, just install an amp?

ok we got new rear speakers and they are loud enough so i dont think ill need an amp

on to the antenna question, there are only 2 connections to check for it right? cable - antenna and cable-head unit

and does the stereo have its own ground?

The head unit will either have a ground wire (usually indicated with a black wire) or it will ground using the case/chassy of the head unit. If thats the case you can either use metal brackets, or take a wire, and theres usually a place to screw a mount onto the back of the head unit with a nut. You can attach a wire there, then run the wire carefully to a grounded spot on the car.

Most after market head units have this bolt/w nut on the back of it, for mounting in other cars. Then again most head units come with a ground wire too, especially the eclipse head units.

Goodluck.
