How much for a good paint job?

I am thinking of getting my FD painted. Anyone have an idea how much a quality job will cost and how long it will take?

THX!

I dont know where your at but I know that a lot of the smaller places will cut back on the price if you help out with the labor intensive parts like masking and sanding. Also smaller shops are more willing to help you get a show quality job if you promise to name them in mags and at events.

Its a lot cheaper doing it yourself but for people without the supplies and/or knowledge it costs you an arm and a leg. It also depends on the type of paint you are wanting to apply to your vehicle...for instance if its 9-sided paint chips its going to be a lot more expensive, or even kandy kolors. if your wanting a pearl B/C job it will cost you around 1500-3000. For a single stage, not that much, if your completely changing the color its going to cost more as well such as going from black to white, more money. If you do the prepping yourself you will save your self a lot of money, just get a DA sander, so low grit discs, a sanding block. Just sand her down to bare metal (except for bumpers, mirrors and all the 'non-metal stuff" ) you could also use aircraft stripper on the car (again not platics, fiberglass parts) Hell if you were in the NY area you would have to just buy supplies and throw me like $200-$400 and i would have it done in 4-7days. but hey thats my info :P

If you or anyone would like me to do an excellent paint job on their car i will do it no problem, anytime of year, anytime of day. Im one of those people who knows what they are doing and appreciates what others are willing to do to their cars with limited amounts of resources. If needed, I will take everything out of that car, competely bring it to bare metal and paint the shell inside and out. And then put everything back in...what will judges sat when they lift the carpet and see buffed candy apple red or green or any color? instead of factory color or primer? If anyone would like to contact me with information let me know my email is ny420jigga@hotmail.com I am located in central NY.

Paint Job

TurboFast87II - Yeah, thanks.....I usually put her away for the winter months.....that alone helps me save money (trying to buy a 94 Supra TT too). I'll email you - Thanks for the reply.

BuckNutty - I'm originally from stamford - Everyone knows my car - Balck/Tan with little white HKS letters in front of the rear wheels. I moved to Fairfield 3 months ago now but I work in Darien and In L.I. on Saturday night in New Hyde Park

The dj...
I tryed to reply to your e-mail but I kept getting it forwarded back for some odd-known reason so heres what I wrote...It really depends on who you goto. When picking someone...look at some of
the work they have done, check everything. But if you want a complete job
done from black to gunmetal. Supplies is going to cost you more than you
would expect because there is a lot of sanding involved and a lot of labor
hours...when garages hear "complete paintjob" they see money signs because
its an easy way to scam people. An honest and good auto-body expert SHOULD
charge you anywheres from $900-1300 a dishonest one can charge you anywheres
from $2-3k. In my personal opinion the FD would be an easy car to change
color on. So i personally would charge...$500 not including supplies (sand
paper, discs, paint, primer, clear etc) I hope this has helped you out with
an idea. Just remember some of these people will even charge you for used
electricity and compressed air lol. Anymore questions feel free to ask.

you must be on crack..

i work at a body shop, trust me 2-3 is reasonable...

first off, if your going to use some good paint, not like sherman williams(laugh) its going to be around 3-400 for the paint alone. now add in removing all the **** on the car, like moldings, windows, beltstrips, handles ect.. that costs money. now add in labor of stripping the car, add in labor of prepping the car. add in labor to paint the car, now add in misc shop supplies. shop supplies are not much, we charge like 10 bucks no matter how much sandpaper or tape or paper we use. now if you know the business there are book times, just like working on mechanical problems of your car.. you get charged for what it says in the book, no matter if the painter does it in half the time. if you want i can write up a complete estimate on painting the car. depends on if you want to do insides of jams, door panels and such, or just some scrap job taping as close to the edges as possible.

before you goto a shop ask for what kind of warrantys they carry on their cars. the paint our shop uses comes with lifetime warranty(sikkens) its high quality.

good luck to ya

Im sorry bocz 2-3k is not reasonable at all. Its a rip-off in my opinion. How much do you think it costs to paint a whole car b/c? door jams and everything imaginable? w/o the cost of labor? The only thing i use sherman williams for is painting my walls lol. I work with PPG and kandy kolors a lot. Im sorry but if it costs someone about 800-900 to paint a car themselves then wheres the rest of the money going?? im not trying to sound like a ***** or anything but i've worked in auto shops and dealerships and its BS there.

Yeah could you write up a quote? I would be interested in knowing how much it would cost to repaint my car vintage red. Also curious how much a color change would be (door jams and all)
