Hood pins safe?

i got a vis scoot hood for cheap it was in a accident and the passenger corner broke so i refiberglassed it but i didnt make a mount that will bolt to the hinges.

would i be able to just use four hood pins and the the front latch to hold the hood down or is that not safe?

that is what I use, no more hood latch...I am using 2 sparco hood pins behind the headlight and Aerocatch locking hoodpins in the front..already did 150 mph and it held up fine

so you'll be fine

You missed the question sir. He wants to know if you can latch the hood down with 4 hood pins the front latch and NO hinges in the rear.

I say it would probably be ok. But I wouldn't do it, at least not for a street car.

If you put a SUBSTANTIAL hood pin at all four corners, then you will be ok.

Just make sure no has messed with them before driving off if you don't use a latch. Not a pleasant surprise.

didnt want to start another thread so ill post here..

for those who use hood latches, do you remove the cable and the latch in the front? or do you just add the latches for extra safety/looks?

1969 Dodge Super Bee's came from the factory with a fiberglass hood held in place by 4 hood pins, no hinges or latches, you can indeed do the same if you wish.

+1.

I'm running a seibon c/f hood and have no hood latch. It came off one day when I was doin about 60 and the standard hood blew up onto the windscreen. The hood latch and bracket totally came away from the car but thankfully there was minimal damage except to the hood which was damaged at the rear corners from it coming up and I had to tap the hinges back down coz they raised a small bit.
Now I am running the seibon hood and 2 attain hood pins but its always in my mind its gonna come up again.Believe me,it scared the f*cking s**t outta me!!!I'm gonna stick another 2 in it just to be sure!

so another good discussion would be what they are mounted with. i have sparco pins with screws on my car, and i had some others i never used with rivets. i have another older pair of sparco pins i will use im wondering what if any might be better for attaching them. not that im going to change them out or anything. i was going to try rivets since i lost the screws with this other pair.

i think either way with 4 its not going anywhere but it hasnt hapened tro me and im still paranoid about it flying up the only reason i lost my latch is i have an older knock off scoot hood. fits great otherwise but latched it sat as your stock or good fitting hood would when you pop it, like almost an inch of space there.
