Question Help!!! Stock Headunit Removal. Strange Problem

I tried removing the stock bose headunit from my 1994 rx-7 today with the radio removal tool. I inserted them onto the cd player holes like everyone has done before and it did not nudge one bit. Tried many different things and still, no success. I then tried the bottom part, tape player, and with a little bit of wiggling that came out, easily. I then stuck my hand behind the cd player and felt that it was screwed onto some bracket that was then screwed onto a piece of metal. So upon finding that out, I removed the whole ac panel and saw that the cd player was indeed screwed onto a little bracket which was then screwed onto some of the supporting metal in the dash. I tried pulling the damn thing off as hard as I could, but it still didn't move.

Has anyone had the same problem? If so how did you remove the cdplayer? (there is no way a screw driver could fit in there to get to the screws)

The car is on jackstands right now so I can't take it to a stereo shop, and I don't want to have to pull off the whole dash just to take the damn thing off.

Thanx in advance

It will take some wiggling and working to get it out. I ended up prying on the edge with a small screwdriver to pull it out. I don't think it was screwed in the back. There's a metal bracket with a hole in it, then there's a nub on the back of the CD player that fits in it. I think it just holds the back of the player for support. If you got the radio out, just try reaching back there and pulling out the CD player. Also, you may not have the tools releasing the clips. Wiggle or pry around and make sure you're releasing the catches.

I just put a Kenwood CD player in like 3 weeks ago, so I felt your guys' pain at the time.

if you can get one of the units out you can get the other out without using any tools. there are "flaps" that flex out away from the head unit, 1 on each side, and you should be able to reach your hand in and push one in and wiggle that side forward and then do the same for the other side.
