help with sound damping
I came across a post a while back about some deadening material called Dead Zone. I saw that company at a car audio show and wanted to see if the guy that posted had used it. Their booth had some really cool demonstrations of the product. It looked pretty impressive. I wanted to see if anyone had used it before I go spending my hard earned dough. They had the hottest chick wearing this reeeally skimpy Dead Zone Bikini!!!
I use fat mat its available on ebay, 50square ft is 80 shipped. Its really good, better than dynamat and almost as good as dynamat extreme. Extreme though is about $200 for 50sq ft. I am very happy with fat mat and notice a rather large improvement.
I used Fat Mat on my gf's car. Its pretty good stuff. The only reason I asked about Dead Zone was they had this big elaborate demo with their dead zone product, dynamat, cascade and some other spray on stuff. They had all this vibration and acoustical stuff hooked up to each demo and showed the damping difference. Naturally the tests were probably a bit biased but it was impressive. It was wayyy better than dynamat, and cascade. The sales guy said it wasnt quite as good as extreme but its alot cheaper. Im not a math wizz but it came out to something like $.75/ sq ft. I restore classic cars for a living so I am always on the lookout for really good inexpensive damping materials.
I picked up a 5 gal pail. Im going to spray it in this weekend. If anyone wants to know how it goes. Let me know. Their website is www.xionind.com if anyone wantsd to check it out. A 5 gal pail was only like 135 bucks and I should get around 200 sq ft thats only like .70/sq ft
I sprayed in the Dead Zone material yesterday (Sat) morning. I ended up getting 3 gals instead of five. They said 5 would be overkill on a RX-7. It sprayed in awesome. You have to be careful, the spray gun I got with the material really wants to spit the stuff out so if your not carefull it can run. It dried pretty quickly. I did 2 coats about an hour between coats and 3 hours before I could start putting stuff back together. I went for a spin to pick up dinner later that afternoon and couldnt tell any difference. I was borderline dissapointed, I called the technical support number and got through to someone. They told me it takes 12 to 24 hours for it to start to work..it has to cure. I went to pick up donuts this morning and I have to say AWESOME. Difference between night and day. Even my gf said it sounds like opening and closing the door on a mercedes. I wasnt going to post anything but if anyone is looking for good...i mean reeally good dampening but at a good price (alot less than mats) check these guys out!!!!! Ask for Chris or Nate. www.xionind.com
