HELP with head unit mounting
Hi,
I am going crazy trying to figure out how to mount a double din sized SONY headunit into a 3rd gen. The stock headunits has the spring clips mounted permanently to them, and I dont' want to remove them. I can't find any kits out there that will mount a double din, do you guys know if I can use a single din mount bracket? How do you install your single din aftermarket head units?
I am looking at this from Scosche's site...(pic on bottom)
I'm thinking the poket radio side mounts would work if i modded it to fit the double din headunit. Any of you have any ideas?
THanks,
Frank

I am not following your two posts... are you trying to insert a single din or a double din?
A single din unit would use its cage/can that would lock into the dash.
A double din unit would require Cutting/trimming and either a double din head unit can (like alpine has as an option for their DD Head units), or custom fabrication.

Well, I'm looking for a double din for the FD's, but can't find any and am trying to figure out how to custom make one out of a single din one. You can't use the stock one otherwise you can't resell the stock radio.
I have called crutchfield about ordering a single din install kit (for me to modify to fit the double din) but they say they dont' make any kits for 93 up rx7's...
Have you fitted an aftermarket with yours?
Thanks,
Frank

No one will make a single din mounting kit for the FD because all new single din units come with one.
The best you might hope for is again using a radio (like an Alpine) that has the double din mounting can option, or if you are convinced that you must use your current brand radio (I think you said Sony) custom fabing locking/mounting brackets or see from the manufacture if there is a double din front load mounting can option.
Crutchfeild would not have that.
IMO, Perhaps you should re-think your radio choice?
