Unhappy Guy who sold me the car wired and aftermarket deck wrong... [Bose Audio]

Well, the stereo is basically a stock Bose system w/ an aftermarket Sony deck. Well, whoever wired it, must have wired it wrong. They didn't use the right harness (didn't use Bose harness). Now, the only speaker that works is the passenger side one. The left one just hisses. Now, do you guys think that my Bose amps are blown? If not, I'll just replace the harness with the correct one. If they are blown, I think I'll just replace the speakers with some aftermarket ones. The guy who sold me the car didn't give me the keys to remove the deck -- where could I snag a pair of keys to remove it? Do all Sony decks use the same keys to remove their decks from the DIN cage?

Is that "wave guide" system in the trunk a sub system, or are they they just rear mid/high freq. speakers?

(Sorry for the extensive post.)

I don't have the bose system, but since you've gone all day without an answer...

The bose system sends low level signals out to the doors. The actual amps are in the doors themselves. There are a variety of ways in which the Sony may have been hacked into the system. But I suspect this non-bose harness is a hi-level (speaker power) to lo-level converter. If the link between the sony and converter or (and especially) if the link between the converter and speaker/amp is broken, you'd likely get hiss.

Of couse the sony may be feeding lowlevel signal directly to the bose amp, or the bose amp may be bypassed altogether.

There's a lot of info on here concerning this, so try a search. I think there's even a sticky right now on the scosche hi to low converters.

The waveguide is a tuned subwoofer. You can search for that too

Hehe, thanks for the lengthy post.

Well, I know how the factory amp-based systems work, it's just I wonder if not having the correct harness would have damaged the speakers? What is odd is that the passenger side speaker works... oh well.. time to order the Bose Harness.
