sounds like the nut that holds the hub on might be loose?...so just unbolt the 5 hex screws that hold the wheel on...then tighten the nut holding the hub

You broke the plastic on the collapsable steering rack.

You're boned.

The little plastic piece is what stops the steering column from collapsing. It is designed in a collision to break so that the column does not impale you by not collapsing.

Its a common mishap when installing a steering wheel.

And you can do nothing about it other than purchase a new rack.

A simple forum search uncovered some of RX7Carl's invaluable information regarding this. Give it a read, it should answer all of your questions.

I'm also quite surprised that in this entire interior/exterior forum I'm the only one that could answer this question. Either the guys are slacking, or don't know anything.

Oh and "boned" is a term frequently used by a cartoon character named Bender from a show called Futurama.

I hope this solves everything for you. From the beginning I was assuming the movement you spoke of was an "in and out" from the shaft. That would be your column wanting to collapse.

What SHAFT are you refering too? ok here it is. ( I didnt get into the books like i need too) the steering wheel sits flush and everything works great except if i pull with fair amount of force toward the roof..inline angle of steering coloum.... it will pull out about 1 " haven't tried to turn it too much but i am pretty sure the horn doesnt work then but not totally for sure on that. will look at it further tomorrow. It doesnt move real easy but if you get in using the steering wheel it may pull out. I just need it to pass a one time inspection here in MD. Thanx and sorry for the agravation.

Shaft? Steering column.

Shaft, column, synonyms.
