getting the stock radio out...

Hi,

Yesterday, I took out most of the dash to reach the cd player and radio unit on a bose equipped 93. It should be much easier to get the stuff out that way I thought. Well it is true that you dont have to wrestle with the clips to take the cd out and I thought it should be the same with the radio unit as well. But after a long time I could not manage to slide the radio out. The clips were free and it should slide out like the cd player i assume once you make it free of the clips. I looked around and under to see whether it is attached to the frame somehow but I could not see anything. I applied a lot of pressure to get it out but no, it moved just a little bit but that is all. Should I supposed to do some other stuff to take it out or should it come out easily?

Basically I have two problems that I want to look into. First cd player skips a lot so I want to look at the mechanism to see whether I can do anything about it and there is a rattle like sound coming from the snakes at the back. It is funny that the rattle comes on stronger when the volume is lowest and when the engine is running. It sound like a grounding peoblem to me but I am not sure.

Unfortunately I like the stock look and all the new stuff is too fancy for me. The only thing I liked is Nakamichi stuff but I need to save some money before buying it. Thats why I want to fix the thing if it is possible. Even if I change the head unit I want to keep the bose stuff in so that rattle should go)

Thanks for any help...

erdemt, the stock head unit is backstrapped with a bolt and a rubber cylinder. you have to pull extremely hard to remove the cd and radio. when you do, bploz is right be very careful NOT to pull the radio out too far, for the antenna connection can rip apart. my friend had to have his re-soldered back on.

here is what you need to do

go buy a couple of U shaped tool that pulls out FORD radios...make sure the end is a HOOK not some rounded ball shape(wouldn't work)...

reach from passenger side to teh bakc of the radio...pull the FM antennas..there are 2 of them..

pull the CD player first.....easier...

then the radio...don't pull all teh way because there is a hook that is screwed into the body of th radio acts as a ground....I cut it since I put in a new head unit in....

need anymore info...let me know...

and here is my end result.....
