Gauging interest for FD HID conversions

I'm posting this thread to get some feedback on something that I might be offering in the future.

I've been checking around for HID lighting options for 7's and the few options that exist are very expensive.

What I plan on doing is retrofitting an HID projector into the existing FD flip-up headlamp. Many people want that purple output from Audis and Bimmers...and they want the prism effect (changing colors as the angle of the projector changes) you can only get from a projector headlamp.

I'm not selling anything here, I just want to get some feedback on what I might plan on offering in the future. I'm thinking that the price will be around $6-700. This would include everything, as well as the labor to custom mount the projector into the FD headlamps, although this is something that is definately not set in stone.

If you're lost with all the terminology then maybe the pics below would help clear things up.

Prelude w/ a projector retrofit.

Something like that, yeah. But the HID option is listed as $1200 on that site... What I plan on doing will look more like the Prelude in the picture above and will cost about half as much. And I'll be using all new parts, with the exception of the FD headlight unit.

Anyways, if someone has a spare set of FD headlamps for sale let me know. I want to get started on the project sometime next week. Pics will be up as soon as I'm done.

Not busting ***** man... But are you going to ACTUALLY COME THROUGH? Or be like the other 65,000 people that come here saying they are making light kits and HID conversions and what not and never produce?

Not bagging anyone that has tried... Just seems like every other day someone is offering something, gets us all hyped up, then dissapears.

Sorry for the rant.

I have very low overhead. This enables me to charge less than most.

So as not to sound overly negative, good luck with the project, and I'm looking forward to see what you come up with.

jdmrx7 i will be working on it right after sema (nov 4 - 7). until then i have some 350z parts that i need to get done for a show car.

j_j you may have low overhead but if 2 hid lowbeams retail for 1000 how do you expect to sell 2 lowbeams + 2 highbeams + mounting + labor for 700.

What I will be doing will not require an aftermarket HID kit to light up the headlamp. I am going to be using actual parts that are used by manufacturers such as Porsche and BMW and adapt them to fit the RX7.

Hmm... interesting..

Well, i say that because.. Wouldn't it cost way too much to get OEM BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, Lexus, Audi, Acura, or any other OEM HID lights???

Also, Most of them use Hella or Philips..
which head light assembly are you thinking of?? I can't imagine which one you might try to retrofit into the 7 pop up lights?? Only one I could think of is BMW projector fogs.. but I think they might be too bigs.. WEll, hope you could get this going and make it cheap for everyone else.. I can't see it being less than a grand..
