Gauging Interest: FD CF Door Sills

Howdy all. So...long story short amongst my varied business interests I helped start a company several years ago that did quite a bit of manufacturing in China. With my involvement in the FD Speaker Bracket project, I have been bitten by the new business bug again and am rapidly putting together a company to sell RX7 Parts.

Using my previous contacts, I've been working with several factories overseas to acquire products for the website that is currently in development. Most of these products are available from other companies but by doing group buys direct to the Club I believe I can significantly better their prices.

The first item I am considering importing is FD CF Door Sills. One of the items I absolutely despise on the FD are those flimsy door sills that break all the time. So to me this is a practical item that brings a little bit of form and function to the car.

Currently I see these door sills going for $250 + shipping at several stores. If by doing a group by these doors sills could be had for $150-$200 shipped to you...who might be interested?

Construction is: FRP Base with Wet Carbon overly...real 3k carbon cloth on top with a UV protected clear gel-coated.

I actually may be able to bring in two products, one that says RX7 on it and one that is blank. One set would mount with double sided tape and the other with double sided tape and/or screws. The blank would be less expensive than the ones that say RX7.

I will not do a group buy until I have done a test fit myself. I current have 2 sets en route for testing fitting which should arrive by the end of the month at which time I will do a group by based on interest. So...if you might have an interest...please take the time to stick your name in this thread.

Thanks!

Are you going to offer both plain and twill carbon or only one of them? For the price you are suggesting I think I would definitely be interested.

I bought a set of CF Door Sills (w/ RX-7 logo) from an eBay Vendor (something I rarely do)... and I have to admit I was *very* impressed with them. All in I as under $150 to my door.

Not 100% on construction, but I have to imagine, if you're planning on sourcing from a current supplier - these are probably the same.

I can post pics on request.

Hi Matt! Please do and thank you for mentioning it. If someone is already offering them for $150 shipped it doesn't behoove me to do the same. Then again some people may wish to get them through me as opposed to a Chinese Ebay Vendor. I'll leave it up to the forum but thank you for taking the time to post your information!

Have to admit... I was rather impressed when they touched down. This is the same place that does the replacement Interior Panels (Hood, Cluster, A/C Surround, Center Console).

Holy ****! Resize!!!! =)

Matt,

Thank you for posting these! These are the exact same sills I have access to. I can now use this as leverage to try and get a better price for everyone based on their availability through Ebay apparently.

Out of curiosity, did you tape them down or screw them?

If you offer these blank/without the rx7 logo I'd be interested in a set.

I’d be interested in a CF set that had the logo with no mounting holes.

Whoops! =)

I used velcro with adhesive on either side so I could remove them w/o having to replace the tape. I also covered up the holes with little black plugs.

With. Forgot to ask if they could do it without it saying "RX7".

Not to slight your product, but I wish someone offered the brushed aluminum panels, I can't find them anywhere.

The brushed aluminum are very nice (I've only seen one set). Not subtle enough for me however! =)

They were an OEM part in the 1993 catalog and then discontinued around 2004. Ray Crowe at Malloy Mazda may be able to get them still or they are still available here afaik: http://www.rx7.com/store/rx7/fdinter...cessories.html

I live near Rotary Performance (rx7.com), talked to Ari & Chris a year ago and they said they no longer carried them. They seriously need to update their website!

Sorry for the thread hijack...

Aw crap. Sorry my friend was trying to help you. =(

Wish I could get my hands on a set and I might be able to get them made in about 3 or 4 projects!

I have a set that I got for cheap. They are a bit scuffed up and there are some dents on some them, I could donate them if you really think you could replicate them in the future.
I really like and appreciate what you're doing here by replicating the carbon fiber ones but those are not that hard to find imo (though I would be more inclined to purchasing
through a reputable member of this community than some Chinese seller in ebay) in the other hand I've only seen the polished aluminum ones come up for sale used and the ones that do pop up newish looking are sold quickly.
Let me know if you want my set, I'm more than happy to donate them.

@Sephek - I'll be in touch once I get my Bose Speaker Brackets to the CNC Machine. I'm certain we can work something out.

@R1 - I've specifically worked out with manufacturer having CF sills made with no holes. They test set was paid for and are expected by the end of the month. They of course will mount with 3M tape or whomever you please.

I'd like the logo myself. He's got them for $165 shipped. I'm trying to negotiate $130-$140 shipped. =)
