Flush mounting Kenwood Z828?!

I saw FD3Boost's Sony install and was wondering what needs to be done to flush mount these fold down units. I have the Kenwood Z828, and I hate those plastic trim piece that stick out, but it seems without it you'd have a 1/4' or so gap around the face if you recessed it. In FD3Boost's it unit is recessed, but there's a smaller trim that fits INSIDE the din to take up the room. Is this custom fab or what?

curious about this issue too... both my headunit and EQ stick out of my dash like a zit w/ those same damn bezels', is this sign of an improper install? it looks ridiculous, like someone tried to pull out the stereo and gave up..

I know no one looks in the catagory..but come on! It sucks having this thing sit on the floor, but having that sucker stick out 2 inches is going to suck..
