Imagine a cwest style kit with the hella lamps that has carbon fiber that forms around the lights hiding the mounting brackets and a clear lexan cover that is molded down around the edges of the kit and where no cutting of the frame is involved.
That is what i'm working on creating. That and now a popup set with carbon fiber molded around the lights to hide the brackets. This idea is thanks to wptrx7

Thanks
John
The lenses are painted on top above the projectors, I don't see what's wrong with that. Yes there is some cutting involved, but I have yet to see a kit that did not require some cutting. All this kit is missing is something to cover the brackets imo.

Thats fine its just my personal dislike. My thing is, it doesn't look professional to me. It looks like someone spray painted it. The paint is to help cover up the projectors and hide the brackets and wires. The only thing is that it doesn't do that well up close. Again if thats your style thats cool. I'm just explaining where i'm coming from.

Yes there is some cutting involved, but I have yet to see a kit that did not require some cutting.
In this kit there is alot of cutting of the frame. In the other kits i've seen the only cutting i've seen is drilling some holes. Holes can be repaired easier than trying to weld back the chunk you cut out.

What i'm trying to acomplish here is to have a set of lights that has good light output (hella 90mm's), doesn't require to cut into the frame (for those of us that mind), and to have carbon fiber and clear acrylic cover that looks good from close and far away.

I'm picky when it comes to how things look and whats involved in getting there especially when it comes to my cars.

Thanks
John

That setup is perfect!!!! Whos car is this? Someone should make this, I would buy it right now. Hella 90mms, lowbeam (projector) on the outside, and sleepy. I have been following headlight kit threads here and there but everyone says the projector is too large to fit on the outside. Nice to see it can be done. Doesn't look like there is a plastic surround on there... but thats just minor details.

I'm with you on that, and like JimLab pointed out, there is a 50mm available that should not cut out on light output and fit easier.

Those Hella 90mm lights are realy nice. If I didn't like the sleek lights so much I would fab a set like that.

Thanks

Me? Yeah I'm still going to do it, just not for me. I'm going to finish the project I started and then I'll make that kit too. I have the motors from my car and the headlight covers so I will still be able to make it. I have a good idea of how I want to do it. I might start the project while i'm doing the sleek kit if I have some down time. I'll post in my other thread when I start it. I plan on at least starting the R&D on it this weekend.

I think both kits would be a big hit.

THanks
John

Here are some pice of the RE-Amemiya sleek light kit on my FD

Everyone who knows me knows that I am obssessed with everything Re-Amemiya makes EXCEPT THOSE DAMMED LIGHTS... When I look at your drivers side lamp it looks like the lense is recessed because of the screw. Also why would a top brand like RE put CF sticker on its lights Paint it black do something.

For me the best looking lights and most functional are the Knightsports. Local member has them and by Jesus they light up the highway as if it was 2pm at 2am (HID version) but then again with a 1,600 USD price tag you must want lights pretty bad.

Good to hear, if its close to that, maybe even a nice black trim piece to finish it up, you got yourself one sale already.

When those cheap HID-bulb-glued-to-H4-bulb **** kits from Asia started coming over, they revamped TREAD to include distributor and user culpability of faulty safety equipment - including headlights.

The bulb must be a DOT certified HID bulb. The projector must be a DOT certified projector. The aiming mount must be a DOT certified aiming mount. and so on. And it all must be DOT certified to function together as a unit - meaning you can't buy a DOT certified bulb and projector, and stuff it into a modified H4 housing and lens, and call it good.

I have posts archived at HID Planet forum about it, including several case citings by the NHTSA and recalls and fines thereof. I won't repost it here - it's rather lengthy - but they have it archived there in their University section. If you want to be sure you've your HID butt covered I recommend you register there and check it out.

I plan on doing a trim piece like the one 87rx7girl showed us in that pic. The only differance is that I'm going to:
1. have a carbon fiber or fiberglass (to be painted) trim piece.
2. have the trim piece cover everything and have two round openings just big enough for the lights. This will hide the brackets and the backs of the lamps and make it look nice.

Thanks
John

Couldn't find any real good close ups of the Knightsports light on their web site.
I can't seem to find a us price on their either.

I'll put it this way... I'm not going to cheap on quality. This might mean that its going to cost me more to make it but I want good quality kits. Every kit will be made to order. No stamping them out from a factory. At this time I have no idea how much materials are going to cost just make one so I can't guess on the price. I can tell you this though, I'm not here to gouge anyone.

Thanks
john

Knightsport pop ups go for over $1200, look on FDNewbie's site. It can also be found on here: https://www.rx7club.com/non-classifieds-violations-59/4-eyes-headlight-fd-progress-510340/

I wish these lights were more available, they sit perfect. It would like the easiest choice to make a housing for.

Based on the appearance, it looks like they were taken from a Supra headlight.

Thought about doing that myself (minus the pop-ups, of course)... in 2002.

^Actually the guy who made the headlights said they were a modified NSX pop-up kit. I forgot where it is but he did make a thread.

Interesting. The lenses and retaining rings (not visible in the picture above because they're behind the chrome trim ring look exactly like the Supra's.
