FD kick panel speakers

Has anyone ever installed speakers in the FD kick panels ? Only thin speakers can be mounted in the door but most 6.5" that have good mid-bass are deep.

Them will work most good speakers have enough off axis response that you just have to make them fit. Infinity use to make some uni-plane coaxials that were 1 1/2 deep including magnets I made them to fit at @ 40 degree angle.. I competed with them for a couple seasons and changed thinking I could make it even better really did not. Wish I had access to an FD I would build some just to see what I could come up with. The tweeters I used set in cups that flush mounted so you could swivel them to get accurate imaging. You should be able to close your eyes and hear what part of the sound stage a instrument is playing from.

I used the dis-continued Adire Extremis 6.4 mid-bass speakers. They're powered by a Avionixx 800.2 T class amp. 200wpc and they do kick drum very well but are soft in the upper mid range. I have a Alpine 7897, the old skool big face model with Bass Engine Pro; 3 way active Xover. The tweeters are Max Fidelity Neo 1.3 and I was crossing over at 2kHZ 24dB but midrange was soft.
I was playing around with Xover points and accidently ran the MaxFi's full range and killed one of them. They were getting 65wpc from a old Coustic A/B amp so after the death I ran the Coustic to my Boston Rally co-ax in the doors and crossed over at 1000hZ 6dB and set the Adire to 1000hZ 24dB. This sounded much better than the tweeters.
The passKick8 pic shows the three pieces of MDF I used to form the enclosure. A lot of trial and error to get these shapes. The passKick6 pic shows the enclosure together and sealed in. It uses the air space in the A pillar to exceed Vas and go free air. The A pillar opening higher up that the door harness passes through, I made a block off plate for to reduce back wave cancelation.
If someone asks how I cleared the kick area I'll get into that part of the install. What do ya think ?
