FD Interiors Crowded ???'s

Hi guys,

I am seriously thinking of buying a 3rd gen 7 but my friend says I should go sit in one before buying it. He told me that they are very confined inside and may not fit me very well. The closest FD I've found for sale to my area is about 30 miles away from me right now so I thought I'd get some opinions here first.

I'm 6'-1" and about 230lb so I'm not a small guy. Anybody close to this size that owns a FD could shed some light for me. The car would not be my daily driver but I would be driving it a couple times a week, and maybe making some longer trips with it <500+miles>. I would also be doing some track day events a couple times a year.

Any help is appreciated.

Mike

PS, For comparison, I've driven/raced the following cars without problems:
01 Corvette Z06
98 NSX
00 Integra Type R
92 Corvette
97 Z28
72 240Z

I have a buddy who was about your size who wanted to get an fd, he sat in my car and got out and realized he couldn't get one, he mighta been a little bigger than you but you might wanna sit in one before making any decisions, it is pretty small in there

I am 6ft. 3 inches. I can move the stock seat back far enough that I am not able to touch the pedals. Yes, it is cramped. Mostly lacking in the hip area so if you have a fat ***, you will be SOL. A bit tight in the shoulders but not too bad. I have driven 14 hours straight in my FD with little discomfort. I believe the padding in my stock seats are compressing somewhat as I now get a pain in my right hip joint on longer trips (over 3 hours). I drive it daily.

i am about that size 6'2'' and 220-230lbs. my only problem is the steering wheel clearance.

not a problem for daily driving, cruising, or even spirited back road driving. however, it limits the heel-toe action so if you any competitive driving make sure to get a smaller diameter wheel. i know it is in the plans for me.

I'm 5'11, 200 and some change, and feel that the car is just right. It really doesn't squeez my hips or anything. The main benefit is that everything in the cabin is angled towards you.

I posted it elsewhere in the forum, but I have made many drives from Florida to Tennessee, to South Carolina, etc, and the only grip that I have, is that my *** falls asleep (more so in the FD than in a Acura TL. . ... obviously ).

Nope, not a fat *** lol...

I might have some trouble with the shoulder area from the sounds of it.

Thanks for all the input so far. It sounds like I might have a chance at fitting afterall. My friend made it sound like there was no-way I'd fit in an FD. I don't mind closed quarters, but don't want to be hitting my shoulders on the pillars either.

Maybe I'll make a post in the NW section to see if anyone will let me sit in their car.

I am 5'11", 185lbs. I also have a autopower roll cage. With a cage you couldnt be much bigger than me and drive it. My knuckles touch my autometer guages on the piller. My left arm hits the door. With a helmet my head touches the celing.

All in all, I love the fit. My friend Dave is 6'4" (and big) and he can barely sit in the passenger seat and can not drive it.

6'2" 175 and I had the same concerns as you, but they were unfounded. I don't feel cramped at all, and my last car was an '01 Ford Lightning. Feels abut the same as my dad's 350'z, but with a little less headroom. No problem with legroom or headroom.

Here's the important part though, If you plan on using a helmet, do your best to find a Base or R1/R2 model with no sunroof as you will get another ~2 inches of headroom (as well as weight savings) over the touring. I have a touring and my helmet bumps, need to get some aftermarket seats soon. I would have bought a base or R1/R2, but I was only going to buy an FD if I coud find an LS1 converson, so I couldnt be picky.

That is what I plan to do, an LS1 conversion. Got any pics of your car? email me: bowtie97@comast.net if you do, I'd sure appreciate it. Thanks for the heads up (no pun intended) on the helmet clearance issue.

I currently have a highly modded 97 Z28 that I'm parting out and putting back stock to sell.

Car looks great, but you need better pictures.

430rwhp,,,, bet that's a fun ride in that little car. I've been lurking on Torquecentral for awhile now.

It's not a matter of ht.

I'm 6' , 180 lbs and the part above my knees hit the steering wheel. My office mate is 6'2" but his long upper turso seems makes most of his height so his head hit's the ceiling.

I suggest you go try to fit yourself in and take it for a test drive.
