FD-Fix for Din Pocket, HU, CD rear support rubber

AFIK, the rear rubber covered studs are the same on all the units: HU, CD, din pockets. The oe rubber hardens and can make removal of the units from the dash difficult. For reinstallation the oe rubber needs to be stripped off. I have replaced this before with a 3/8 x 9/16 x 1 long rubber stopper from Lowe’s and drilled a hole in the middle.

A little lubricant on the stopper could only help installation. If unit doesn’t feel like it wants to go all the way in you can remove the stud, spin off the rubber stopper and trim a little length from the large diameter end. This will make sure that the mount the stopper fits into isn’t up as far toward the larger end of the stopper when it is installed in the car.

A better solution would be to use a piece of rubber that is not tapered along its whole length. The oe rubber is about 1/2" diameter as installed on the stud. Does anyone have any other ideas?
