FD car alarms
So I'm on the look out for a car alarm for my FD and I'm wondering what some people are running. I'm looking at the Scy Tek Galaxy Mobile 500. I like it because it works with my phone plus it has GPS tracking and I don't have to carry those clickers on my key chain. Just wondering if anyone is running something similar or knows of a better product.

Few people bother to run alarms on their FDs (as you will discover if you search - there only a handful of alarm threads).
The truth is that it does not really matter what alarm you run since a professional thief will pretty much be able to bypass anything. A $5 fuel cutoff switch will defeat an amateur thief.
These cars are almost never stolen in any case - so there are way better ways to spend $500+.

I think that is a better idea with a battery cut off switch. I just liked the fact that the system has a GPS tracking on it. I know Viper is doing the same thing, but it is not out yet. I know if they want the car they are going to get it but with the GPS it would be nice to call the cops and tell them where it is.

i was talking to a police officer and he was saying that car thieves will now steal a car and drive it across town and leave it for a few days and then come back if the car is there then no gps is on the car and they are in the clear that if it does have gps the car will be gone when they come back this way they wont get caught so yea not a bad i idea once it is stolen but i prefer to stop it all together

i know what you mean bubbles. my radio settings are all reset when ever i needed to work on the car and take the battery terminal off... but since i have the battery in the bin and did my Fuel pump rewire, i have a fuse in the bin, so if i pull that the fuel pump gets no power. so they can try to turn it over but it wont start. since its in the bin with the battery i can lock it also.

I've got an old DEI from years ago... it's not foolproof obviously but it at least gives me more confidence that the car will not get broken into than with no alarm at all. The GPS feature would be nice... the 2 way remote ones that page you when your car is getting stolen however are ridiculous . What are you gonna do, sprint to your car from your office with a baseball bat, only to show up and find that the dump truck going by set it off?
The best thing about having an alarm though was being able to take advantage of central locking. I set up actuators on the driver door and trunk (passenger door already has one stock). I was talking to Scrub, and a few other guys just yesterday and had a good laugh that people still have to use a key to get into their cars... like it's a wooden door to your house. I was thinking about making up some brackets and a little pre-made "kit" with instructions to install the actuators, but you'd still need an alarm (or door remote) installed to use them. Personally I couldn't live without the central locking now... guess I just take it for granted.

Lojack? It is more reliable than gps, lojack is run off radio waves, will transmit from in a container and installed by people with a special cert. Anyone can install the alarm and are easily bypassed. Lojack is run by police with a locator in their car, gps you have to do the leg work yourself and get cops involved that way. This brings more risk to you, whereas lojack has a feature, if they sense the car moving with no key, it automatically calls. I like the idea of the alarm for the cell phone link and keyless though, get both and feel at ease.

I have LoJack on my car too. Well the canadian branch of the company Boomerang which is the same thing. Once I was getting the car towed and they called me inside the tow truck cause my keys were in my pocket. I've been looking for that thing since I had it (3 years) and I have yet to find where its located inside my car lol. I'll find it one day.

I'm currently installing a CrimeStopper in my '93. I have added the power window module, a solenoid for the rear hatch and am currently working on the power door locks. Some things to take into consideration on this topic: 1) the car has a factory "alarm" installed and you will either need to disable or interface to it. 2) the car only has power lock on the passenger door. If you want to add it on the drivers side you will either have to add a solenoid and figure out how to tie-into the lock mechanism or, as I am doing, try to get a passenger side lock mechanism from Japan and add the wiring for it yourself. Either way it's a real pain in the ***. 3) There are microswitches already in place for the hood and the trunk latches.
I'm also adding a Pain Generator and Xenon Strobe inside the cabin, a programmable car-jack switch, starter disable, remote start, a battery cut-out for everything except the alarm and stereo and flourescent blue lighting inside the cabin.

You can use any of those gun shape actuators, you will need to modify the stock speaker bracket.
I would also recommend using a Cable Lock Bracket Kit, reduces the chance of the actuator breaking the cable, but the bracket will interfere with the map pocket.... so you might have to cut a portion of the map pocket out to let it fit.
dblboinger do you have a parking flash enabled with your crrime stopper?

I believe I do have the parking flash, but I did it in a way that does not activate the headlights, like the factory alarm does. My installation diagrams are at work, when I get them back I'll post up a little more info. I spent a good amount of time researching and asking questions.
