Lightbulb FD Audio Upgrades - Post Experiences?

I am finally ready to pull my Bose stuff and upgrade my audio system. I plan on building the sub box detailed here. But I also would like to know how other owners have dealt with the door speakers (sizes and type) and adding rear speakers and if they still used a center channel speaker on the dash. I'm leaning towards replacing the HU with the Kenwood 301 double din unit also. I'd be interested in all experiences with any of these subjects. Pics too if you have them! Thanks!

Use the search function in the top right of the screen. All these things discussed many times.

I just finished my system about a month ago. I originally had the bose acoustic wave system, but decided to upgrade. At the moment I have a JL audio W1 sub with a JL audio amp (4-way). The speakers I'm using are MB Quartz Q-series, I believe, and have a pair of tweeters in there. Oh and I also purchased an Eclipse headunit. The sound quality is amazing, bass is perfect for the FD, and finish is excellent. I don't have any pictures taken yet, but I'll probably post them when my cars complete (about 2 months). The set-up definitely cost me some money, but DEFINITELY worth it.

Thanks for the reply Farhan! Was it difficult mounting the MB's? Did you remove or use the Bose enclosure? Where did you mount the tweets? Thanks again!

Well I had a shop do all the work for me. I believe they may have had to do some cutting to install the MB's. The Bose enclosure was completely removed and the tweeters were mounted on both driver and passenger side pillars. The whole set-up is extremely clean, and I have no complaints. Hope that helps.

my experience with installing the stereo equipment in my car, is to make sure that EVERYTHING is grounded well, and run the power cables farther away than usual from the signal cables, especially if you got some monster 2 gauge wiring or something crazy. starting everything up and hearing that nice whine from your engine is nothing less than dissapointing.

i have my ipod hardwired to my head unit and molded a holder for it in the ashtray. it looks AWESOME, but isolating all the noise from crossing lines and the ipod itself was an extreme pain. in the end it worked though. if you would like some details on how i made my non-ipod ready headunit work with my ipod, PM me.
