FC Stereo Questions

I ripped out all 3 of the shitty factory amps today, installed my head unit, 2 rear speakers, 1 front speaker with a crossover and tweeter and called it a day. I was wondering if the front left speaker mount comes out so that I can dremel it to fit a very slightly larger speaker like I did on the right front side. Also, where would be a good place to mount a tweeter discretely? I mounted my right side tweeter in the huge box that houses the factory amp for the front and the front right speaker. Thanks..

isn't it part of the dash? if memory serves me, it's kinda-like a molded hole in the dash. not sure about audio (i'm not an audiophile) but wouldn't mounting a tweeter not at or aimed at head level be bad? tweeters are all high end, like a center channel on a 5.1. the human ear can tell, in which direction, the sound is coming from so wouldn't mounting a tweeter at knee level be "bad"? i don't know.

the guy who had my car previously drill his own hole in the door panels. he put the tweeters next to the door handle latch, on the side closest to the dash. it didn't look bad at all - except he blew them all.

YF19 is correct about the placement of tweeters, though not for the reasons he's stating The nature of waves (including audio), is that the higher the frequency, the less the spread or "bleed" of the wave. So low frequency (think of a subwoofer) have nearly 360 degrees of audio coming out of them. You can stand behind a subwoofer and get the same effect as standing in front. The higher you go with the frequency, the more directional it gets. A mid-range speaker has about 180 degrees of audio, depending on which frequency it's playing. play a song or tone on your computer speaker and spin it around. When you get to the highest frequency (which tweeters put out), you're talking about a 20 to 30 degree range of spread. This means that if it's not pointed directly at your head (specifically, your ears if possible), there's a good chance you won't hear anything at all from them!

Now, getting back to answering the question, I put both speakers on the front of the black gauge surround, near the top "corners". You don't even notice they are there, since I just put the tweeter there. No mounting equipment or anything, I just drilled ahole and epoxied the plastic "bulb" the tweeter is in directly to it. It only sits out about 3/4", and it's round, so it looks like any other **** or anything on the car. VERY good audio for the driver, as you have a left and a right channel the same distance apart from your ears.

Just remember, no matter where you mount them, you need them to be pointing directly at your head.

Hope this helps!
