Fc speaker question

i know this has probly been discussed multiple times but i cant seem to find it. so ill ask. i have a base 87 fc and im trying to find out if i can mount components in the doors or not. it didnt come stock with speakers there. it just has little 4s in the dash. basically i am wanting to know if i can put 6.5s in the doors without alot of major reconstruction. o the speakers have a 3" mounting depth if this helps any. please help me!!!

You can easily put 5.25" in the doors (see pic 1) if you have a base model.
Also, if you can find a donor car with the premium system, you can get door panels that already have a grille in the same place, and mounting plates for the OEM "7J" speakers.
Then the only difficult thing at that point would be to find some N.O.S. 7J speakers like the Sony XS-628 (pic 2) or the Blaupunkt 7J (forgot model #), or even possibly find the OEM speaker in new-old stock from Mazdasurplus for example. Otherwise you can easily make "down size adapters" and run 5.25-6.5" in this location if you can find some that are made extremely shallow depth design.

It's an 8" opening, but finding some 8" speakers that aren't subs is difficult.

www.crutchfield.com sells 6.5" adapter kits (or they come free with speakers) but they don't work on everything. I got some with some Kicker speakers and it worked fine, I got some better Rockford Fosgates and they don't fit in them.

Of course, most installation places can make something that will fit back there too if you want to pay the cash.
