I finalyl got off my *** last night and starting planning for the new car-puter setup. Right now I have nothing because I'm pulling the bins out soon to replace with seats (for the future kids ) and have been pondering where to stick the computer.

I decided to put it behind the driver rear seat in a nice enclosure that shouldn't take up too much room.

I managed to fit everything in a 10x10x5.5 inch box so far and have the prototype finished and can begin fiberglassing as soon as the temps are good outside:



It's a nice tight fit but airflow will be sufficient for cooling (it's a 1ghz PIII, so it's not like it's going to cook itself to death).

I haven't really decided on finish yet. I was thinking either marine vinyl (I have some that matches the grey carpet perfectly) or doing a faux carbon fiber finish (I believe you spray it black, put soem screen over it then spray silver or pewter and epoxy over the whole thing). If I went the carbon fiber route it would look alot like this:


The little notch in the right fits a mirror at a 45 degree angle with half a mini rotor glued on so it looks like it's kinda floating there.
